All About Fred Warner and Sydney Hightower’s Baby Boy on the Way

Regardless of the Super Bowl, Fred Warner has something to look forward to now that the big game is over: the arrival of his baby boy with wife Sydney Hightower.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker and ex Bachelor competitor announced that they are expecting their first child together in October 2023. The boy is due in March 2024, a month after the 49ers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

After getting engaged in May 2021, Fred and Sydney tied the knot on June 25, 2022 in an intimate ceremony in Vista, California. Now the two are preparing to welcome their first child.

“I was really, really blessed with an amazing pregnancy. I have a completely different perspective on it from the beginning,” Sydney told PEOPLE in February 2024. “My first and second trimesters were easy. I was literally pregnant. This last trimester is a little harder, but I’m getting through it. I’m pleasantly surprised by my experience.”

In January 2024, the couple announced they were expecting a boy in an Instagram video showing their reactions. Before they cut open the cake, revealing the blue frosting inside – implying a son – the video showed Sydney’s hesitation as she asked Fred if she could take a peek first. He replied, “Wait, let’s go,” in nervous anticipation.

After they cut the cake, Fred screamed and fell to the floor in joy, while Sydney laughed sweetly at his reaction.

After the couple found out they were expecting a child, Sydney began planning her boy’s nursery. She documented the process on her Instagram Story, showing how it went from an ordinary room to a future children’s room.

In December 2023, she said her goals for this month were to paint the room and add trim, as well as light fixtures. She also wanted to buy a rug, a chest of drawers and a crib.

“In February I will focus on styling and getting the smaller details to bring it all out [sic] together!” she wrote on her Story.

During her interview with PEOPLE, Sydney clarified that she plans to go full-on nursery planning and how to get mom ready after the big game.

“My house is like a construction site right now. There are boxes and furniture everywhere. It’s a real disaster,” she said, noting that “camera crews are here every day for press for Fred.”

She continued: “Things are really crazy. I have diapers and shoes and stuff all over the place. The nursery is nowhere near done. So things are chaotic here, but I still have six weeks left. I’m telling myself that this week is completely dedicated to whatever we have to do.” to do for the Super Bowl. And then, after we get home from that Super Bowl, it’s crucial time. It’s baby time. We have to completely shift gears to be parents.”

The third trimester was difficult for her

While Sydney said the first two trimesters were “a breeze,” she said she struggled the most with the third trimester.

“This third trimester has really blown me away,” she said in an Instagram Story Q&A. “Definitely the most difficult quarter so far. I still have six weeks to go so I’m just trying to stay calm lol but it was really hard not to lie.”

By the time of the Super Bowl on Feb. 11, Sydney was four weeks away from her due date — but that didn’t stop her from being present. Ahead of the game, she told PEOPLE that she got the go-ahead from her doctor to hop on an hour-long flight when it looked like the 49ers would make the playoffs.

“I thought, ‘I’m not going to say anything about existence, but let’s say we got there,'” she said. “I’m very superstitious. I asked, ‘Would you let me fly?’ And she said yes.”

“Everything is going well so far, so if nothing changes in a week, we’re all good,” she added.

While at the game, Sydney said she will have to “take it easy” while her husband takes the field.

“I was told to stay really, really hydrated and not walk too much during the day,” she said. “So I’ll just make sure I get some vitamin C packs and try not to jump around too much.”

Overall, she viewed the pregnancy during Fred’s big moment as a “fairy tale,” she told PEOPLE.

“It’s like a movie. You can’t write these things,” she said. “And we’ll be able to have those memories forever, we’ll be able to talk to our son and show him pictures like his mom pregnant with him and his dad, so excited to meet him, literally at the Super Bowl.”

Sydney and Fred are already looking forward to raising their son to embrace all the cultures of his background.

On her Instagram Story, Sydney joked that the “ladies” would be “dying” for her son because he is a mix of “Caucasian, African-American, Dominican, Mexican and Panamanian.”

When asked if she would teach the baby Spanish, she said “sure!”

“Being bilingual is extremely important to Fred and me,” she wrote.
