All About Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart's Son Liam

Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart couldn’t be more proud of their son.

The Ally McBeal the actress adopted Liam Flockhart Ford (24) in 2001, shortly before she met and began dating Indiana Jones star. Harrison, who has already raised his four older children, immediately took on a fatherly role in Liam’s life before officially adopting him after he and Calista tied the knot in 2010.

During the interview with in 2008 Reader’s DigestHarrison shared how grateful he is that both Calista and Liam came into his life.

“She brought the child back into my home,” he said of his wife, adding, “This is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of the child’s growing up, which is always an endless spring.”

He continued, “[Calista] she devoted herself to Liam and did a really wonderful job raising him. I’m happy to have a piece of work now.”

Despite their A-list status, Harrison and Calista are very private about their relationship and family life. Liam has stayed out of the limelight and rarely discussed him publicly or shared photos of him online. He did, however, accompany his famous parents to sporting events as he got older and recently graduated from college.

He was adopted by Calista in 2001

Liam was born on January 1, 2001 in San Diego and was adopted by Calista.

“I am overjoyed to be blessed with a beautiful and healthy son,” Calista, who was present at Liam’s birth, said in a statement. “I am completely mesmerized and in awe.”

At the time, Calista was in the middle of filming the final season of her hit legal series Ally McBeal.

Harrison adopted him after he married Calista

Harrison and Calista met at the 2002 Golden Globe Awards shortly after Calista adopted Liam and the couple soon began dating. Although Harrison wasn’t expecting any more children, he took an active role in Liam’s life before formally adopting him in 2010 when he and Calista tied the knot after more than eight years of dating.

“I didn’t expect it at all,” he said of becoming a father again during a 2010 interview. Parade. “The unexpected part was certainly true, and the joy part was also true.”

He added: “I think Liam was about 6 or 8 months old when I met him and Calista. We’ve been together ever since.”

He has four brothers and sisters

Liam is the youngest in the Ford clan and has four older siblings: Ben and Willard, whom Harrison had with his first wife, Mary Marquardt, and Malcolm and Georgia, whom the actor welcomed with his second wife, Melissa Mathison.

Over the years, Harrison has been candid about the wide age gap between his children and what it’s been like to be a parent at different stages of his life.

“I have a total of five kids, so this isn’t my first rodeo,” he said The Independent 2010. “Yes, I’m obviously getting older, but I don’t have much to do with it. It doesn’t interest me as something to dwell on. I have a 9-year-old child at home. I feel like the father of a 9-year-old child.”

He continued: “My older children have taught me a lot about parenting. My first child was born when I was 25 years old. I think I’m a little better at it now.”

Calista took a break from acting to raise him

After Ally McBeal ending in 2002, Calista took a five-year hiatus from acting to focus on raising Liam. She returned to television with the role of Kitty Walker on ABC Brothers & Sisters. However, according to Los Angeles Timesit took some coaxing from the show’s producers and she only agreed to join the cast if she could only work two or three days a week to be home with Liam.

“With a child, I just don’t want to give up that much time,” she told the magazine in 2007. “I feel really lucky that I can make my own decisions about how much I’m going to work. It’s an amazing place and I’m a little surprised to be there. I’m at a place in my life where I’m really happy.”

Tracking Brothers & SistersCalista has starred in several other TV shows over the years, including the CW’s Supergirl and upcoming ones Feud: Capote vs Swans, but she continued to make her family her priority.

Now that Liam is all grown up, Harrison shared with PEOPLE during a January 2023 interview that Calista is “just getting back to work after committing to parenting [Liam] for the last 20 years” and that he would love to work on a project with her.

He is passionate about sports

As a child, Liam was very interested in sports and was often photographed attending various sporting events in Los Angeles with his parents. In March 2014, the family of three was spotted at a Los Angeles Kings vs. Carolina Hurricanes hockey game. A few years later, Liam and Harrison attended a 2016 Los Angeles Lakers game.

Liam also played sports growing up. During the appearance at the 2009 Jimmy Kimmel Live!Calista shared that her son had no interest in becoming an actor like his parents and was more focused on baseball. She noted that Liam’s favorite team was the Los Angeles Dodgers and that year he even dressed up as a Dodgers player for Halloween.

“He was a ‘cunning dog’. I thought it was so clever, he came up with it himself,” the proud mom told host Jimmy Kimmel, explaining how Liam incorporated his love of animals into the costume.

He’s an adrenaline junkie

Harrison is known for his love of flying planes, and Liam seems to share his dad’s passion for high-flying adventures.

During the appearance at the 2019 The Ellen DeGeneres ShowHarrison told host Ellen DeGeneres that he went skydiving for the first time in New Zealand, but only because Liam wanted to.

“It was his idea,” he said, “but it was fun, it was great. I really liked it.”

He also said they’ve talked about doing it again, noting, “We don’t talk to his mother about it.”

He graduated from the university in May 2023

Liam graduated from Amherst College in Massachusetts in May 2023. The proud parents were spotted attending the graduation ceremony in photos he received Page six. Calista wore a white dress and was seen taking photos of Liam on her phone, while Harrison wore a suit and posed for pictures with the new graduate. For his part, Liam donned a cap and gown and held a chestnut cane, which is given to each graduate as part of the Amherst College tradition.

Harrison and Calista have already been spotted on campus bringing Liam to the start of the Fall 2020 semester in style – Star Wars the actor flew the family there in his private jet.
