Ariana Grande Says Her Higher-Pitched Voice for Wicked 'Might Stay': 'Certain Things Maybe Won't Melt Away'

Ariana Grande’s transformation into Wicked it still has a lasting effect on her.

In a new interview with DiversityThe 31-year-old actress and singer, who stars as Galinda/Glinda in the fantasy musical alongside Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba, reflected on how her role “required a lot of vocal work” for her — and as a result, Glinda’s voice “may stay.”

“Certain things may not dissolve. Some will, but I’m really grateful for the pieces that will stay with us forever. How nice to stay with us and feel the spirit every day,” Grande continued, before looking back at another farewell a gift from his role.

“I’m still looking for my eyebrows,” she joked in the interview, published on Thursday, January 2. “I’ll let you know if I find them—I hope not.”

The two-time Grammy winner also told the magazine about herself and Erivo, 37, “Maybe people underestimate how long we spent finding these women and disappearing into them.”

“So when it takes a certain amount of time to melt away certain infections or mannerisms, sometimes people make fun of it,” she said of their work on the Jon M. Chu-directed film. “But we had a job to do, and we had things to get lost in — because that’s what the piece calls for.”

And Grande was more than happy to put in the necessary work, physically and otherwise, to play Glinda, which she has long called her “dream role.”

“I was chasing [producer] Marc Platt was down for about 10 years, wondering when this movie was going to happen, when I was going to get a chance to audition,” she said with a laugh in a clip from Wicked digital home edition, available now.

“As soon as I heard that maybe in a few months they could start seeing people, I was like, ‘Great! Now’s the time to start,'” Grande added.

The “7 Rings” hitmaker also admitted that she “had a little part of my wardrobe that was just little pink t-shirts and stuff, just in case” to land the role of a lifetime.

“I asked myself, ‘What underwear would Glinda wear today?’ Grande joked.

Wicked is now available to buy or rent digitally, with pre-orders also available for the film’s 4K, Blu-ray and DVD release, which comes out on February 4.
