All About Jack Harlow's Brother, Clayborn Harlow

Jack Harlow is known to love his hometown and his family – especially his younger brother, Clayborn Harlow.

The brothers were raised in Louisville, Kentucky by parents Maggie and Brian Harlow, who co-own a local sign store called Signarama Downtown. The couple had their first child together, son Jack, on March 13, 1998. Clayborn, whose name is Clay, was born two years after the “First Class” rapper, on November 23, 2000.

The couple have been close since childhood, when they spent their elementary school days dressing up as their favorite characters from Star Wars or Harry Potter.

“I would wake up in the morning and dress like Anakin,” Clay said Rolling stone. “AND [Jack] would be Obi-Wan or whatever.” In one 2017 Louisville magazine of the then-rising rapper, Jack said he was more reserved as a child, while his brother was a “friend-making machine” on the playground.

Growing up, the brothers always had each other’s backs. Clay is a proud and supportive sibling and often praises his big brother’s success on social media and wears his merchandise in photos.

They grew up together in Kentucky

Jack and Clay grew up together in Shelbyville, known as the saddlery capital of the world. Jack rapped about his childhood in one of his early songs, 2013’s “Started From the Middle.”

He sings, “Okay, I grew up in Shelby County, I live in the country / I look out my window, I see some horses running / I’m not even kidding, man, it’s true and real / Then I went to the third grade, and we moved to the ‘ville, uh huh.”

The family even owned a horse named Buster, which they sold when they moved to Louisville so the boys could be closer to other children, according to Louisville magazineRapper profile from 2017.

Jack has been vocal about his love for Louisville throughout his career and is proud to shine a spotlight on his community. “It means everything. It’s my foundation. It’s part of my DNA,” he told PEOPLE in 2021. “People joke about how often I refer to my home, but it’s a big part of my identity and I want you to think Louisville when you think on me.”

Jack graduated from Atherton High School in 2016, while Clay attended Ballard High School, where he was a member of the football team. He shared a handful of photos and videos from his high school days on social media, including photos of him and his football teammates.

They were raised in a musical family

Jack credits his mother with instilling an early interest in music. She played Eminem for him while he was in the womb, he says Louisville magazine. Public Enemy and A Tribe Called Quest were also staples in their household, according to the word Rolling stone.

“He and my mom would freestyle in the car,” Clay recalled to the paper about his brother’s early interest in rap. “They’d play instrumentals, and we’d be driving somewhere, and they’d both be rapping.”

Clay himself also has an interest in music and has dabbled in various instruments, including the piano. “Just finished my first piano lesson,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter), in 2023. “Got twinkle twinkle little star on lock.”

In 2023’s “Blame on Me,” Jack rapped about the dynamic of siblings growing up as they enter their teenage years. The lines seem to shift from the perspective of the narrator’s younger brother, back to himself, and then to their father.

“All of a sudden I meant nothing to you / You wanted nothing to do with me / You’re running with a team that ain’t got no room for your little brother / I’m destroyed but I still loved you,” Jack raps on the song, seemingly from the perspective of the little brother he left behind a brother or sister they love and look up to.

Clay helped produce some of Jack’s songs

Clay followed in his brother’s musical footsteps, pursuing a career in production. He even worked on some of Jack’s hit songs, including 2022’s “I Got a Shot.” Come home the kids miss you. He expressed his pride at the opportunity to collaborate with his brother on Instagram, sharing a photo of the album cover.

“THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED ME ON THIS JOURNEY!!!!!!” he wrote. “WITHOUT YOU, I WOULD BE!!!! LOUISVILLE NEXT!!!! ❤️❤️❤️.”

Jack posted a photo on Instagram of the pair working together in a studio in Nashville in October 2023.

The budding producer has worked with a roster of artists, with production credits on fellow Louisville-raised artist Bryson Tiller’s “Profound Outro,” Russo’s “Reflection,” “You Know How the Story Goes,” and more.

Clay regularly shows support for his brother

From fronting a Jack Harlow commercial to praising his brother’s music online, Clay isn’t shy about how proud he is of the rapper.

“The ‘First Class’ music video is my favorite Jack video. S— is beautiful. Underrated,” he wrote on Xu in 2023. Later that year, he also boasted about how quickly Jack’s song with Jung Kook, “3D,” went viral. “Bruch got a million views in 25 minutes,” he wrote.

When Jack was nominated for a 2022 Grammy for Rap Album of the Year, Clay was quick to congratulate him — and hilariously insist that he always knew this day would come.

“I told Jack the day I was born that he was going to be nominated for a Grammy for sure,” he wrote on X. “I remember laying there, the umbilical cord still attached. I looked Jack in the eye and let him know you’re going to do it in 2022. You’re going to be nominated for Rap Album of the Year.”

They both want children one day

Both Jack and Clay have made it clear that they look forward to fatherhood one day. As for Jack, he has repeatedly said that he wants to have 8 children. “I want 8 daughters,” he continued Chicken shop date with Amelia Dimoldenberg.

Clay addressed his desire to be a dad on X. “I don’t understand why so many people don’t want to have kids,” he wrote in 2016. “I’m excited to have a little boss running around.”

He was by Jack’s side at major milestones

Whether he’s hitting the red carpet or joining his brother on stage, Clay has made several public appearances to support the rapper during his rise to fame — and his brother has always returned the favor.

To mark Clay’s 16th birthday, Jack brought him out during the concert and had the crowd sing “Happy Birthday” to him, according to Louisville magazine.

In 2022, Clay hit the Grammys red carpet to show his support for Jack, who won his first Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance for his hit “What’s Poppin.”
