Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s son Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt has a passion for art, just like his parents.

Despite growing up with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars as mom and dad, the former couple’s middle son continues to work behind the lens.

“None of my children want to be actors,” Jolie told BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour in 2016. “I think they like the process of making a film from the outside.”

Pax has been exposed to the industry since being adopted by Jolie and Pitt in the early 2000s. His youth included attending red carpet events with his parents, such as the 2018 Golden Globes and the 2019 world premiere of Jolie’s film. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

“It is part of their life. But it is not important to them and the center of their lives in a way that is unhealthy. It’s all fun,” Jolie said Extra 2019, allowing her children to see all aspects of her career.

Although Pax mostly lives out of the limelight, he and Jolie have worked together and share a close bond. “I schedule with each of the kids like a crazy person. I know what I’m doing with my boys tonight,” she said Vogue in 2015.

He was born in 2003 in Vietnam

Pax was born in Vietnam on November 29, 2003. He spent his early years in the Tam Binh orphanage near Ho Chi Minh City.

“We often travel to Asia, Africa, Europe, where they were born,” Jolie said Vogue places of birth of her children.

She continued, talking about the heritage of Pax and his brother Maddox: “The guys know they’re from Southeast Asia, they have their food and their music and their friends, and they have a special pride.”

It was adopted in 2007

Jolie adopted Pax in 2007 after he spent three years in the Tam Binh orphanage. As regulations in Vietnam made it difficult for unmarried couples to adopt together, Pitt later officially adopted their son in 2008.

During this time, Pax joined his older brother Maddox and two younger sisters, Shiloh and Zahara. Jolie told MSN that Pax was a “tough, remarkable little person” as he adjusted to life with his new family.

“He spent 3 and a half years of his life in one place, in one room, in this one little iron bed with 20 other children, and he had no choice for himself, no freedom,” the actress said. “And suddenly, here he is in a very free situation with new siblings and mom and dad. He’s learning English and he’s so loving and wild and free ’cause he’s suddenly free.”

He returned to his hometown in 2011

Four years after he was adopted, Pax and the Jolie-Pitt crew returned to his hometown.

“We owe a visit to Vietnam, because Pax is coming,” Jolie said Financial Times 2011. “They all learn about other cultures and take pride in their own. Everyone has their flags above their beds and their personal pride.”

He has five brothers and sisters

Although Pax mostly lives out of the limelight, he has worked on several projects with his famous mom.

He made a cameo appearance in Jolie’s 2014 film Evilhe voiced the character Yoo in the 2016 movie Mom Kung Fu Panda 3he helped her along with Maddox on They killed my father first and worked in the assistant director’s department at No Blooda film that Jolie directed.

“We work well together,” the mom of six told PEOPLE in 2022. “When the film crew is at its best, we feel like a big family, so it was natural.”

He is interested in music

When not working on film, Pax has found another creative outlet to express himself: music.

“They’re actually very interested in being musicians,” Jolie told BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour about her children. “Pax loves music and deejaying,” she added.

He traveled the world

Pax’s childhood was filled with world travel as Jolie emphasized the importance of keeping her children connected to their roots and embracing their cultural traditions.

“I try to raise them to respect all people and make friends all over the world and to feel at home with the world and really live globally — because I think that’s what forms them and that’s very important to me. And I worry about them doing their math and science, but that’s the most important thing to me,” Jolie told NBC Los Angeles in 2011.

He was hospitalized after an electric bike accident in July 2024

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Pax was hospitalized on July 29, 2024, after an accident that occurred while he was riding his e-bike in a high-traffic area on Los Feliz Boulevard. Media reported that Pax was not wearing a helmet and was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for a head injury and hip pain.

A source told PEOPLE that Jolie “is with him and reported that he is stable.”

A week after the accident, a source told PEOPLE that Pax was released from intensive care, adding that Jolie is “deeply grateful for the quick, life-saving EMS action and the outstanding medical care he received.”

“He suffered complex trauma and now begins a long road of recovery and physical therapy,” the source said.

The source added that Pax’s siblings “visited and helped” during his hospitalization.
