Bachelorette Alum James McCoy Taylor Arrested in Texas on Charges of Assault, Unlawful Restraint

Bachelor alum James McCoy Taylor was arrested again in Texas.

The 38-year-old man was taken into custody Sunday, Aug. 4 at the College Station Police Station on warrants related to the April 24 incident. Taylor was charged with assault causing bodily harm and unlawful restraint, according to jail records obtained by PEOPLE.

He was released the same day and faces $4,000 cash bail on each charge, for a total of $8,000.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Taylor – who competed on JoJo Fletcher’s season Bachelor 2016 – indicated that after the incident there was “not even a scratch on me (as I showed the police via pictures of my full body which was embarrassing to say the least).”

“I’m a pretty big guy, but I was trying to ‘illegally restrain’ a girl and she just … ran away? … and went straight to her Uber in front of my house? No injuries?” he asserted, adding, “Trust me, if there were ANY injuries they would be all over the internet.”

“To the people reading this: If you want fame, it never ends that way. If you want money, it never ends that way. If you want to ruin my life, it always ends that way… keep it up,” he continued. “I would never hurt anyone. I am nice to EVERY person I meet.”

Taylor added: “I don’t know the daughter’s name because we haven’t spent much time together but I feel like she wouldn’t want all of this to come here if she could go back. And I don’t hate you I just wish I knew where you came from and where this came from .”

‘Bachelor’ alum Joshua Tylerbest arrested, charged with possession of child pornography

This is not the first time Taylor has been in trouble with the law. In 2022, PEOPLE confirmed that he was taken into custody in College Station, Texas on charges of driving while intoxicated and illegally carrying a weapon.

Local newspaper KBTX reported that he was found urinating in the garage and was told by an officer not to drive, but he did so and was later arrested, according to a police report. He allegedly had an 18-year-old “freshman female companion” with him in the car, who “was in no condition to assess the benefits and risks of the situation she was in,” according to the report.

He was released the same day on $7,000 bail.

Taylor also came under fire from Bachelor Nation for speaking publicly about the January 6, 2020 riots at the Capitol, while tweeting his support for the effort the day before. He later confirmed that he was not at the event, and that the FBI was investigating his whereabouts on the day of the riot.

Regardless, Taylor’s support encouraged Mike Fleiss, the creator Bachelor and Bachelor, only to declare him “officially kicked out” of Bachelor Nation in a tweet shared a few days later. The singer now includes “banished from Bachelor Nation” in his Instagram bio.
