All About Shawn Johnson and Andrew East’s 3 Kids

Shawn Johnson and Andrew East are successful former athletes and are also parents to three children – Drew, Jett and a third baby born in December 2023.

Their paths crossed when the gold medal-winning gymnast retired in 2012, and shortly after that she met her current husband. Fast forward, Shawn and Andrew got married in 2016 in Tennessee. After their wedding, Shawn suffered a miscarriage just two days after finding out she was pregnant in 2017. The couple shared an emotional YouTube video about the experience.

“The past 48 hours have been some of the happiest, scariest and saddest moments of my life,” she captioned the video. “My husband Andrew and I found out we were unexpectedly pregnant, only to learn the tragic news a few hours later. I cried more than ever, but I’m still optimistic about what’s to come.”

In 2019, Shawn and Andrew welcomed their first child, a daughter named Drew Hazel. The couple then celebrated the arrival of their son, Jett James, in 2021. On December 12, 2023, they welcomed their third child, although they have not yet revealed the child’s name or gender.

“Our baby is healthy and that’s all we can ask for!” Shawn said in their FamilyMade newsletter, where she and Andrew announced the news.

The couple announced they were pregnant in April 2019 in a YouTube video. “@theeastbaby … we can’t WAIT to welcome you into the world and shower you with love. @andrewdeast WE DID IT!” Shawn wrote alongside a photo of her and Andrew pointing at her stomach on Instagram.

Six months later, Drew Hazel was born on October 29, 2019, weighing 8 lbs., 8 oz. and 20.5 inches long. According to Shawn’s Instagram post announcing the news, Drew’s name is a nod to Andrew. “Named for the most amazing person I know…her dad,” she captioned an Instagram photo of them kissing Drew.

Over the years, the couple has shared her milestones and other sweet moments — from meeting her icon, Blippi, to becoming a big sister. Nicknamed “Roo,” Drew is “definitely a daddy’s girl,” Shawn wrote on Instagram in 2020.

Another highlight was the full-circle moment when Shawn took her family to meet her longtime former gymnastics coach, Liang Chow, in 2022. During their visit, Drew showed signs that she might be in love with her mom’s sport and took a particular interest in trampoline.

“The fun part, when she started warming up, she was just running, zigzagging all over the gym,” Shawn said in another YouTube video. “She was like, ‘Mom, beam.’ ‘Mom, bars.’ ‘Mom, the trampoline.’ ‘Mom, the vault.’ ”

Shawn is the news of baby no. 2 shared on Instagram with four words: “Here we go again.” The January 2021 post included photos of her baby bump and Drew holding tiny sneakers.

On July 19, 2021, Shawn and Andrew’s son Jett James East was born. “We are so happy to welcome our little man into the world,” they said in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE. “We love life as a family of four and soak up every minute.”

A few days later, they posted more details about their second baby on their YouTube channel. Jett was 21 inches long and weighed 9 lbs., 13 oz., and Shawn also opened up about his name on Instagram. Jett James combines the names of her great-great-great-grandmother and the names of her husband’s brother.

These days, Jett is on the go — especially when it’s inconvenient for his parents. In October 2023, Andrew shared a video of Jett running away from his game and playing in the middle of the night. “He was not even 2 years old when he did this. all decks with this guy,” the former NFL star joked in an Instagram caption.

During a family trip to Greece in July 2023, Shawn posted several photos of her baby bump on Instagram to announce that she was pregnant. And according to what Shawn told PEOPLE, Drew and Jett were looking forward to having another sibling.

“I don’t think Jett understands. Maybe she does, but Drew is really, really excited and she talks about it every day or kisses my belly every day or something. It’s so cute,” she said.

Shawn and Andrew announced the news that their third baby was born via C-section in December 2023 and decided to keep the baby’s name and gender a secret for a few days before releasing more details.

“The third time feels so unreal because even though we’ve done this twice before, there’s still so much nervousness and excitement in the days leading up to the birth, and then so much magic when you get to hold your sweet baby in your arms for the first time,” Shawn said. when she announced the baby’s birth in her FamilyMade newsletter.

Andrew added: “My dad was born on the 9th of December and passed away unexpectedly on the 27th of December last year, so December is a really impactful month for us. Having our baby born so close to his dad’s birthday feels really special and I know he would be smiling and so proud of us.”
