All About Tulum, Vanessa Hudgens and Cole Tucker’s Wedding Location in Mexico

Vanessa Hudgens said “I do” this weekend in one of Mexico’s star-studded destinations, sources confirm to PEOPLE

The High school musical alum, 34, and her professional baseball player husband, Cole Tucker, 27, invited friends and family to celebrate their wedding in Tulum, Mexico, a longtime favorite beach town on the Yucatan Peninsula.

Hudgens was spotted posing on the beach barefoot in a casual white dress over the weekend, and her ex HSM Costar Monique Coleman posted a video on her Instagram Story showing footage of the tropical setting. Reps for Hudgens and Tucker did not respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.

Located about an hour and a half south of Cancun by car along a narrow strip between a biosphere reserve and the Caribbean Sea, Tulum was once mostly popular with backpackers and adventurers. In fact, many of the thatched huts along the sand didn’t even have electricity.

Now it’s a luxury destination that attracts A-listers with its laid-back yet trendy atmosphere and stunning white-sand beaches.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Bosworth, Maren Morris, Julianne Hough and Alessandra Ambrosio are among the many celebrities who have vacationed here over the years. Paris Hilton stayed at the HABITAS hotel, while Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz did a yoga retreat at the Amansala Resort and Spa. Kristin Cavallari was spotted at Azulik, which has the feel of a Swiss family’s modern-day Robinson treehouse with thatched-roof cabins for adults only.

Many hotels and restaurants in and around Tulum pride themselves on their commitment to sustainability, making it a popular destination for eco-conscious celebrities. Some visitors cycle around, and bars and restaurants are often open-air and candlelit.

In recent years, many larger resorts have opened beyond the original string of small beach hotels, bringing in an even greater influx of international visitors and diluting some of the bohemian spirit that Tulum was known for years ago. But the added luxury hasn’t hurt the appeal of some famous tourists.

Modern Family’Sarah Hyland and her graduate husband Wells Adams stayed in an overwater bungalow at El Dorado Maroma. And Hotel Esencia is a favorite of Lupita Nyongo, Suki Waterhouse, Jerry O’Connell and Diane Kruger.
