Alleged Kim Porter Memoir Is 'Fake' and 'Shameless', Says Lawyer for Late Model's Ex Sean 'Diddy' Combs

A recently released memoir purported to be written by Sean “Diddy” Combs’ late ex-girlfriend, Kim Porter, is being called “bogus” by Combs’ lawyer. Porter’s family is also “exploring” legal action, a source close to the family tells PEOPLE.

KIM’S LOST WORD: A journey for justice, on the other side… it was recently released on Amazon on September 6th. After Combs, 54, was indicted on sex trafficking, racketeering and prostitution charges on Sept. 17, the book shot to the top spot on the platform’s literature and fiction list.

A brief sample of the 58-page article, noticeably filled with typos and inaccuracies, details alleged disturbing and graphic sexual encounters with Combs and other celebrities, as well as the music mogul’s alleged physical abuse of Porter.

Combs’ attorney Erica Wolf says in a statement to PEOPLE that the memoir is “false,” “offensive” and “a shameless attempt to profit from tragedy.”

The cover features a photo of the model, who died aged 47 of lobar pneumonia in 2018, and is written by “Jamal T. Millwood” for “Kimberly A. Porter”. Chris Todd (real name Todd Guzze) published the book under the pen name Millwood.

“Chris Todd has no respect for Ms. Porter or her family, who deserve better,” Wolf tells PEOPLE. “Contrary to the fabrications in his disgusting ‘memoirs’, it is an established fact that Mrs. Porter died of natural causes. May she rest in peace.”

“Kim Porter’s family is exploring all of their options,” according to a source close to the family, particularly regarding legal action against the publisher and those involved.

“Kim Porter was never the author of the manuscript, and any claims to the contrary are completely false and fabricated,” adds another source close to the family. “The unsubstantiated pages in the book not only misrepresent Ms. Porter’s lived experience and legacy, but continue to cause unnecessary distress to her loved ones. Kim Porter has four children, two of whom are still minors, and all of whom no longer have access to their father while in in custody awaiting trial, Chris Todd, who is believed to be the publisher, has no connection to Kim Porter or her family.”

PEOPLE spoke with Todd about the veracity of his book’s content on Tuesday, September 24.

“Do you think Chris Todd would risk his ass and reputation for something that’s fake??” Todd responded by speaking in the third person. “Number one on Amazon.”

“If someone were to put my feet in the fire and say, ‘Life or death, is that book real?’ I have to say I don’t know. But it’s real enough for me,” Todd said in a separate interview with Rolling Stone. “Sometimes you just have to put it out there. Maybe not 100% of the book is true, but maybe 80% is. It is to get these people to come forward and confirm or deny [the claims]and that helps me as an investigator to find out the truth.”

Porter and Combs’ volatile romance began in the 1990s. They had a son, Christian, in 1998, and twin daughters, D’Lila Star and Jessie James, in 2006, before calling it quits in 2007. Combs also helped raise Porter’s son, Quincy Brown, whom she welcomed with R&B singer Al B. Sure in 1991.

Sure, 56, also criticized the memoir as fake and “unauthorized” in an Instagram post on Monday, September 23.

He shared book clippings as well as photos of him and Porter and wrote in part in the caption, “Unfortunately, Kimberly was taken from us so soon and before she could complete her real thoughts before this FAKE UNAUTHORIZED EDIT posted on AMAZON that the disappearance of her computer and vitals the evidence raises many more questions.”

He also warned of a “significant lawsuit that leads precisely to the leaders of those responsible”.

Ahead of the book’s release, Porter’s close friend Eboni Elektra also shared via Instagram that Porter did not write a secret book and that he would “never do such a thing.”

Meanwhile, Combs is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn after being denied bail twice while awaiting trial. He should be back in court in early October.
