Amira received two partial merit scholarships to complete her BA in Music Therapy at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston. While studying at Berklee, Amira joined the Berklee Indian Ensemble, where she had the opportunity to work with some of the best musicians from around the world. Among other things, she studied traditional music from the Balkans, the Middle East, and India. At Berkeley, she also shared the stage with artists such as Vijay Prakash, Shankar Mahadevan, Shreya Ghoshal, Tigran Hamasyan and Amal Murkus. She performed Punjabi/Pakistani folk music at the International Folk Music Festival at Berklee College of Music. While studying at Berklee, she produced an album, Shuruaat, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2022 in the Best Global Music Album category.

After graduating from Berklee, Jill went on to intern at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital as a music therapist, where she worked closely with children who were experiencing many medical challenges. After her internship, she had the opportunity to travel to Kenya and Uganda with Umoja Global Community Music Therapy; their motivation is to empower and help women and children who are alone.

When I was very young I started performing professionally in bars and clubs late at night with an all male band (The Incredible Mindfunk). Most parents are uncomfortable with this, but my parents are very supportive and show up to almost every show, full of pride. Even though I wanted to go to Boston, they supported me instead of worrying that I wouldn’t have the “safety net” of a degree to fall back on if music didn’t work out as a career. They trust me and my decisions. “
