Amy Adams Says There Were 'Years I Didn't Wear Makeup' in Public at Her Daughter's Request (Exclusive)

Amy Adams turns up the glamor on the red carpet, but takes a low-key approach outside of the spotlight.

In this week’s issue of PEOPLE, the 50-year-old actress recalls her 14-year-old daughter, Aviana, asking her to go natural. “She didn’t like me wearing makeup,” Adams recalls.

She continues, “She’s like, ‘I just want you to look like a mom, not Amy Adams.’ And I said, ‘You’ve got it.’ There were years when I didn’t wear make-up wherever we went, I secretly wore mascara,” she laughs. “But yeah, I wouldn’t wear makeup because she wanted me to just be a mom.”

Recently, her “funny” teenage daughter offered a few pointers on her typical mothering uniform.

“I’m usually the least manicured in my household,” he said night bitch says the star. “But lately, at my daughter’s request, I’ve been working on an upgrade. She says, ‘You can’t wear workout clothes if you don’t workout, Mom,’ she says with a laugh. ‘You can’t just do part time in your spare time.'”

At home with husband Darren Le Gall and Aviana, Adams says she’s usually “the last person to get ready.”

“I’m going to help my daughter get ready. My husband is going to get ready,” Adams says. “I’ll be helping her, running around or braiding her hair. And I’m always the last person to get ready… usually [on my end] there’s a ponytail, maybe a hat, and I think it’s been that way since she was born.”

In September, the family traveled together to the Toronto International Film Festival for the film’s debut night bitchmarking Avian’s first time on the red carpet. “It was really great to share it with her,” says the proud mom. – I simply love her.

“I get very nervous about public speaking, and she has never been around me [in those moments]. She said, ‘Mom, you do this all the time. You got this!’ She supported me, it was so sweet.”

During an appearance on Friday, December 6 at Living with Kelly and MarkAdams added that she is “not sure” if her teenage daughter will follow in her acting footsteps.

“If it feeds her soul and she loves it, I’m here for it,” she said. “But for now she has no interest.”
