Killed his friend
The story begins in 1992, when Anand Pal, who belonged to the Ravana Rajput family, was about to get married. In most parts of Rajasthan, it is believed that children born after the marriage of a Rajput man and a non-Rajput woman do not belong to the Rajput community, but are instead classified under a group called Ravanara. A separate category for “Jept Community”. Since Anand Pal did not belong to a pure Rajput family, the pure Rajputs of the village warned his family that if the groom followed the tradition of ‘Ghodi Chadna’, the consequences would be detrimental to their family; as at that time only It takes a pure Rajput to climb a mare. During this period, Anand Pal became close to Jeevanram Godara, student president of Diwana Bangur College. He narrated the incident to Godala, who himself still attended Anand Pal’s wedding and made him climb the mare in front of him. After this incident, their friendship became even deeper. However, on June 27, 2006, Anandpal recklessly killed Jeevanram Godala. He reportedly killed Jeevan Ram in revenge for the killing of Rajput Madan Singh (an Indian Army personnel). Later, a Rajasthan court arrested him for the murder of Jeevanram Godala.

Anand Pal became interested in politics when he contested and won the Panchayat Samiti elections in Samvlad village in 1999. Later, he contested the Pradhan election from Ladnu Panchayat Samiti but lost to Jagnath Burdak (son of Harji Ram Burdak) by 2 votes. Harji Ram served as Cabinet Minister in Ashok Gehlot department in 2008. In 2000, elections to the Ladnu Panchayat Samiti Committee were held. At that time, the police filed a case against Anand Pal for disrupting government work because he did not allow his competitors to submit nomination documents. Escape from police custody
Anand Pal was jailed in 2012 for carrying out some illegal activities. On September 3, 2015, he escaped from police custody when he was taken to the high-security jail in Ajmer after a court hearing. Three masked men reportedly opened fire on a van in Kohar village and Singh escaped from police custody along with two other criminals. The incident made him one of the most wanted criminals in Rajasthan. Rajasthan police spent crores of rupees to catch the gangsters.

Illegal property and wealth
The Rajasthan police said Anand Pal and his brother gained huge wealth after entering the world of crime; however, the family has never been able to reveal the source of the income. Apparently, one of Singh’s daughters spent nearly Rs. She earned Rs 20 lakh from her engineering studies in Dubai. It was also reported that his other daughter and son are also studying in an expensive school in Pune. His family owns two flats in a posh colony in Jaipur worth over Rs. 6 million per person. Later, the police confiscated around 370 plots of land owned by him in Kuchaman, Jaipur, Hanumangarh, Sikar and Churu. The family also owns a mining unit in Makarana and several benami properties in different cities in Rajasthan.

Anand Pal faces multiple criminal charges, including murder, robbery, extortion and gang warfare. Despite these charges against him, most people in Rajasthan still consider him to be the Robin Hood of the Rajputs. He is famous for his actions in redistributing wealth. He often steals from the rich to benefit the poor. Anand Pal reportedly had a group of loyal associates in crime who were often ready to sacrifice their lives for Anand Pal. In July 2014, his close aide Balveer Banuda shielded him from gunmen sent by Anand Pal’s rivals to kill him during a gang war in Bikaner jail , saved his life.

In May 2017, Anandpal’s lawyers met with the then Governor of Rajasthan, Kalyan Singh, to discuss that Anandpal Singh was a patriot and was prepared to surrender if provided with security. . His lawyer also wrote to the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court stating that there should be an impartial investigation as Anand Pal had not committed any crime. He said it was the injustice of his leadership that led to his current situation. He added that he escaped from the prison because his friend Banuda was killed by the enemy inside the prison and he might have been killed too if he had not escaped from the prison.

According to Rajasthan government officials, Anand Pal was shot dead on June 24, 2017 (midnight) during a raid by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Special Operations Group of the Rajasthan Police in Malasal in Churu district . However, his family and many others denied the government’s official statement and blamed his death on the police. His family and lawyers even said that Anand Pal wanted to surrender but the government wanted him dead.
After Anand Pal’s death, his family sought a CBI probe and demanded access to his wealth. They refused to accept his body until their demands were met. His lawyer even claimed that Anand Pal knew several dirty secrets of a minister in the then Bharatiya Janata Party government in Rajasthan, which he believed might have played a role in what happened to Anand Pal.
The then Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria denied asking for a CBI probe into Anand Pal’s treatment, saying:
How do I order a CBI investigation into my own force? I am the head of the police force. It is morally wrong for me to demand a CBI investigation of my own people, if they wish to be investigated they can go to court. We are ready to face any investigation but we cannot order it ourselves, I have been assigned a task and the police force is also working hard. If the High Court or the Supreme Court orders an inquiry, then we will face it. “
On June 30, 2017, the court ordered another autopsy. His family received his body on July 1, 2017. However, his body was not cremated until 20 days after his death.

People are unhappy with the government for rejecting his family’s request for a CBI investigation. People criticized the government and vented their anger on social media platforms, resulting in the government suspending internet services in Sikar, Churu and Nagaur for a week to suppress the protests.

On July 12, 2017, Ravana Rajputs and the Rajput society formed a joint struggle committee and called for a tribute meeting on July 12, 2017. More than 200,000 people gathered at the conference. During the meeting, the Rajputs vowed not to vote for the BJP in the 2018 assembly elections. Violence broke out during the meeting despite the government’s measures to ensure the condolence ceremony was peaceful. A Nagaur SP gunman opened fire to disperse the crowd, which sparked more anger among the crowd and the crowd started throwing stones at the police; 19 people, including the Nagaur SP, were injured.

On July 13, 2017, Ajit Singh, the superintendent of Rajasthan prisons and a Rajput official, tried to convince Anand Pal’s family to accept cremation. A notice from the Human Rights Commission was posted at Singh’s home saying cremation would take place within 24 hours. The police and the government handled the funeral and asked Singh’s son to accompany them. However, his son refused to go. Police later took Singh’s brother and five people from the village to the funeral site and proceedings were held. Anand Pal’s mother, however, is adamant that she will set herself on fire along with her son if his case is not investigated by the CBI and his body is forcibly cremated. After the police took Anand Pal’s body to the funeral, his mother Nirmal Kanwar tried to immolate herself by pouring kerosene.
