Andrew Garfield Says His Sex Scene with Florence Pugh Went ‘A Little Bit Further Than We Were Meant To’

Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh got a little carried away while filming a sex scene for their upcoming romantic comedy, We live in time.

While talking to Happy Sad Confused podcast host Josh Horowitz on Oct. 4, the 41-year-old actor revealed that while he and Pugh, 28, were filming a steamy scene, they got so caught up in acting that they didn’t hear “cut” — and continued even after the camera stopped rolling .

Recalling the moment, Garfield recounted the initial awkwardness as a couple – who play a married couple in the We live in time — became intimate for the film, a recording of an interview on stage in New York shows.

Mimicking his demeanor during intimate scenes, Garfield said, “How is this? can i kiss you now You don’t have to, even though we pretend we’re married.” After eliciting laughter from the audience, he added that Pugh, the eternal professional, simply laughed at every oddity.

“She would just laugh at me because she is very confident in her body, her sexuality and her being,” The Amazing Spider-Man said the actor. “Florence is Florence.”

So when it came time to do the first take of the “very intimate, passionate sex scene” — filmed on a closed set with just the leads, a cameraman and a cameraman — the actors got a little carried away, Garfield recalled.

“The scene becomes passionate – as we choreographed it – and we kind of get into it,” the actor recalled. We go a little further than we should just because we don’t hear ‘cut’ and we feel safe, and we’re kind of, ‘Okay, let’s go to the next thing and the next thing and I’ll let this progress.’ ”

The stars let things progress for so long, he said, that when they looked up from each other, the camera was no longer on them.

At a certain point, he recalled, he and Pugh “were both kind of telepathically saying to each other, ‘This definitely feels like a long time.'”

“I think I’m looking up,” Garfield continued, rising from his seat to demonstrate. “I look up, and it’s in the corner [the cameraman] and our branch handler. [He] he has a camera next to him and is facing the wall.”
