Andrew Lloyd Webber Hired a Priest to Rid His Home of a ‘Poltergeist’

Andrew Lloyd Webber said there was once a “poltergeist” in his house.

In an interview with The Telegraph published on Tuesday, the legendary composer, 75, said he had been investigating paranormal activity at his home in Belgravia, a central London district, until he called a priest for help.

“I had a house in Eaton Square that had a poltergeist,” he said when asked if any of his theaters were haunted. “He would do things like take theater scripts and put them in a neat pile in some dark room. Eventually we had to get a priest to come and bless him, and he left.”

The term poltergeist is German for “noisy ghost” and the ghost is responsible for unexplained physical noises.

Although Webber did not specify when the poltergeist appeared in his home, the revelation comes after a busy time for the impresario, whose The Phantom of the Opera the musical bowed for the last time in April 2023 after 35 years on Broadway.

The musical debuted on Broadway in 1988 after a West End premiere in 1986 and is known as the longest running show in Broadway history.
