Symonds made his ODI debut against Pakistan on 10 November 1998 at the Gaddafi Stadium. He made his Test debut against Sri Lanka on 8 March 2004 at the Galle International Stadium. He made his T20 debut against New Zealand on 17 February 2005 at Eden Park. He is a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium bowler. His jersey number is #63. In 1994, he won a scholarship to the AIS Australian Cricket Academy. In 1995, he was selected for England’s tour of Pakistan, but he did not accompany the team and stayed with the Australian team. During his tenure with Queensland, he scored over 5,000 runs and took over 100 wickets. He played for four countries during his career, including Gloucestershire, Kent, Lancashire and Surrey. Symonds did not receive recognition in the early stages of his international career, but when he was given the opportunity to play in the 2003 Cricket World Cup, his performances were praised. In 2008, Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh was accused of calling Symonds a monkey during a Test match in Sydney. Harbhajan denied Symonds’ claims and was suspended for three games. After some time, the ban was lifted. Many Australian cricketers supported Symonds but the action taken against Harbhajan was inappropriate. In an interview, Symonds admitted he started drinking because he felt guilty about his team-mates’ involvement in the controversy. In 2009, Symonds was banned from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to alcohol abuse. He was released from his contract with the Central Cricket Council of Australia and never played for Australia again.
