Angela Bassett and Husband Courtney B. Vance Have Date Night at Metropolitan Opera in N.Y.C.

Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance are styling in New York!

On Tuesday, Bassett, 65, and her husband of nearly 26 years, Vance, 63, were among the many celebrities who walked the red carpet at the opening of the Metropolitan Opera’s new production. Walking Dead.

Bassett and Vance wore black attire for the black tie event, with Vance wearing a brown hat and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star wearing a large black felt rose on her dress.

The longtime couple were in good company at the opening night of the opera at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center. Jon Hamm and his wife Anna Osceola, Anne Hathaway, Sigourney Weaver, Whoopi Goldberg, Patrick Stewart, Al Roker and his wife Deborah Roberts and Peter Sarsgaard were among the many A-listers who walked the red carpet on Tuesday before the show.

Bassett and Vance began dating in the early 1990s after first meeting while both studying at Yale University in the 80s.

In 2018, Bassett told PEOPLE that “maybe about 14 years later,” the two reconnected in Los Angeles. The couple remained single at the time and began dating. The What does love have to do with it star and Vance eventually married on October 12, 1997, and on January 27, 2006, gave birth to fraternal twins Bronwyn Golden Vance and Slater Josiah Vance, 17, on January 27, 2006, via surrogate.

“He understands empirically everything I’m going through,” Bassett later told PEOPLE of her relationship with Vance in February. “He can really give me perspective, because it gets very heady and very busy, but he just keeps me grounded about the important things, that life is good and that we’re all doing our best to support each other.”

Vance, who serves as president of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, has remained active in the entertainment community in recent months even after the shutdown of many Hollywood productions due to the ongoing Screen Actors Guild strike.

The actor helped raise large donations to the foundation’s Emergency Financial Assistance Fund to help many of the union’s 160,000 members with financial assistance during the strike; Dwayne Johnson donated untold amounts of money over the summer, as did George and Amal Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck and Oprah Winfrey, among others.

Vance also stars in the upcoming Showtime and Paramount+ film Robbery 88, a crime thriller based on a true story. Both Vance and Bassett worked on the film as producers under their company Bassett Vance Productions with Vance starring.

Robbery 88 launches September 29 on streaming and on-demand for all Showtime and Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers before debuting on-air October 1 at 9:00 PM ET/PT.
