Angelina Jolie Goes Barefoot on The Tonight Show After Decade Away from Talk Shows: Why She Ditched Her Shoes

Angelina Jolie made an unexpected fashion statement during her first talk show appearance in a decade.

The Maria the actress stepped forward The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in a flowing black dress, she chose her footwear as she walked across the stage in Studio 6B at Rockefeller Center.

“I noticed you’re barefoot,” host Jimmy Fallon asked Jolie, 49, during the episode that aired Thursday, Dec. 5. “Did you forget your shoes?”

The Oscar winner laughed, saying: “No, I broke my toe yesterday and I tried to find a comfortable shoe, but I just decided not to.”

Angelina Jolie reveals son Maddox has followed in her footsteps by becoming a trained pilot

Jolie showed off her bare feet with dark nail polish as she sat in a guest spot next to Fallon’s table. And as the interview began, the mother of six admitted that she was out of her comfort zone.

“By the way, I get really nervous on talk shows,” she said. “I feel very uncomfortable, and I haven’t worked for a decade. This is none of my business.”

Jolie — who shares Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16, with ex Brad Pitt — opened up about her children’s interests and feelings about the industry parties.

“I think some of them [want to work] off camera, behind the scenes, but they really, really want to be — especially Shiloh — they want to be private,” said Jolie Fallon, 50. “Just private, not photographed, not on things. I think she would want privacy most of all.”

“It must have gotten so tricky, because they’re all famous,” Fallon noted.

“But it wasn’t their choice,” he said Evil the star explained. “So some people are more comfortable with the public, some people are more comfortable with talk shows.”

Jolie reiterated this statement during a November 21 appearance on Good morning Americasharing, “None of my kids want to be on camera [at] this time. They are quite private.”

“Shiloh is extremely private,” she added, before further explaining, “They weren’t born with privacy, were they? So I hope they can have that when they are old. So we’ll see.”

Jolie’s appearance on the show comes as a promotion for her new biopic directed by Pablo Larraín Mariain which she played the titular opera singer Maria Callas.

The film received standing ovations at both the Venice International Film Festival and the Telluride Film Festival — including an eight-minute one in Italy that moved Jolie to tears — and is building Oscar buzz for the star.

Earlier this week, Jolie spoke with Marcheline Bertrand’s late mother about the impact on her life and career as she was honored at the Gotham Awards for her performance in Maria. (Bertrand died in 2007 at age 56 after a battle with ovarian cancer.)

“In Mary’s memory, thinking of my mom… for all those who teach and inspire art in others, all the young artists growing up and everyone in this room celebrating creativity and expression, I’m really, really honored to be here with you all and to be a part of this community,” Jolie said in part.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weekdays at 11:35 PM ET on NBC.
