Anna Delvey's Terse One-Word Reply to What She's Taking from DWTS Shocks Her Partner Ezra Sosa

Warning: spoilers ahead.

Anna Delvey is not one for sentimental goodbyes.

On Tuesday night, the convicted fraudster, 33, was eliminated from the September 24 episode Dancing with the stars. When asked by host Julianne Hough what she is taking from her experience on the show, she bluntly replied, “Nothing.”

Her professional partner, Ezra Sosa, looked shocked by her response, raising his eyebrows in surprise. For her part, Hough laughed before ending the episode. As the rest of the cast said their goodbyes, pro Alan Bersten and contestant Dwight Howard could be seen walking up to Delvey and Sosa, 23, and hugging them.

Immediately afterwards, backstage, Delvey was spotted walking around grinning from ear to ear.

Delvey’s short time on the show was shrouded in controversy from the start. She previously became notorious for posing as a wealthy German heiress and using her social position to defraud wealthy people, banks and hotels. She was arrested in 2017 and convicted of first-, second- and third-degree felony theft, as well as theft of services in 2019. When she was cast, many fans questioned whether she should have a place on the show.

But Delvey looked back on her past, wearing a flashy monitor on her ankle. When she was cast, she revealed that she had received special permission from ICE to compete on the condition that she wear the device. (After serving time in state prison and paying restitution, she was released in February 2021. Shortly after her release, ICE took her into custody for violating the terms of her visa. She has since been living under house arrest in New York City while she fights her case deportations.)

Anne Delvey Dancing with the stars Partner Ezra Sosa says she hid in the bathroom crying after the premiere amid backlash

Sosa, who was promoted to pro dancer on the show for Season 33 and quickly became a fan favorite, said on TikTok on Monday that he was surprised by the level of negativity she received after last week’s debut episode.

“For me, I felt so much positivity,” he said. “As for my partner, she did not receive the same. I think the hardest part is the day after [the] press line, she was reading the comments and we couldn’t find her. They finally found her in the bathroom. She was crying. I have never seen her like this and it broke my heart.”

On Tuesday’s episode, Delvey’s friend, actress Julia Fox, appeared, saying that Delvey’s tough exterior was a form of self-protection.

“Even though Anna has this tough exterior, it’s clearly a defense mechanism,” Fox said.

In what ended up being their last dance of the show, Delvey and Sosa danced a quick step to The devil wears Prada theme song, “Suddenly I See” by KT Tunstall, with Sosa’s choreography playfully mocking Delvey’s detached demeanor. (At one point he lifted the corners of her mouth to force a smile.)

In the end, her terse last word on the show was in keeping with her public persona.
