Anne Hathaway Revisits The Devil Wears Prada Costumes 18 Years Later — from ‘Post-Grad Frump’ to Meryl Streep’s Wig

Anne Hathaway agrees that Andy Sachs’ wardrobe was in dire need of a change.

As a part vanity fairIn a series of “Scene Selection” interviews, the Oscar winner, 41, reflected on her iconic films, including The devil wears Prada, which also stars Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt. And while she was doing it, she had fun reminiscing about iconic outfits from the movie.

“Just look at my beautiful costume,” she joked while watching a scene in which her character Andy, dressed in loose clothing, first meets glamorous “Runway” editor Miranda Priestly (played by Streep).

“I know the costumes eventually got more glamorous, but I have to say, that’s the beauty after graduation,” she continued, recalling that the velvet jacket “seemed like the right choice” but the “bruised lilac” sweater didn’t. the most “flattering”.

When Streep appeared on screen, Hathaway gasped and had to pause the clip to look at the actress’ ensemble.

“Look at that wig. Oh my God [it was done by makeup artist] J. Roy Helland, who is next level in her craft,” she said of Streep’s transformation into the “Runway” boss.

Hathaway also shared how she admired her legendary costar during filming. “I was there when Meryl first walked on that set, and I saw her respect the work of our production designer, but also craft it into something that felt more like she saw the character. I was such a sponge around her, I just wanted to absorb everything like she did.”

Although Hathaway admitted she didn’t watch The devil wears Prada in almost two decades (the classic turns 18 this June), she said vanity fair that the 2006 drama, directed by Daniel Frankel, had a “magnetic quality” that immediately drew her in, though she never knew it would leave “such a legacy” on pop culture.

Recently, Hathaway, Streep and Blunt reunited on stage at the 2024 SAG Awards to present the award for Male Actor in a Comedy Series.

The trio stepped into their roles as no time passed and they were also trained for the role! Blunt sizzled in a red Louis Vuitton dress that would have been complimented by her character, Emily Charlton, while Hathaway wore a navy blue Versace design, a nod to the iconic scene where Miranda elegantly berates Andy for her tailoring naivety. Streep appropriately wore a sheer maroon Prada gown with a train and glittering embellishments.
