Andrew’s ex-wife Queen Camilla is said to be supportive of his relationship with angry Anne — who sent quiz contestants off with the line: “You’re the weakest link, goodbye.”

A friend of the couple, both married twice, said: “They sensibly avoided being photographed together as they both wanted to keep it quiet for as long as possible.

“Annie proudly tells everyone that she’s the daughter of a market trader and a chicken seller and she’s about as far from that as can be – frankly, she beats any story the Crown could come up with.

“Annie and Andrew are a great match — she makes him laugh, a lot, and he’s one of the few people who can get away with her.

“She likes to joke that she’s ‘the new money’ — despite the fact that she went to boarding school, her father got a double first, and she spent part of the summer holidaying at The Carlton in Cannes when she wasn’t working at her mother’s stall.

“They were set up by a mutual friend.”

A friend said Anne hosted several dinner parties in her sprawling 17th-century barn in the Cotswolds, where Andrew was her plus one.

The friend added: “Annie remains fiercely independent and although she has staff who regularly prepare meals for the couple, she is impressed by Andrew’s own cooking skills.

“The Brigadier and the Evil Queen have a certain tone to it – but there’s no way they can live together because she’s too self-sufficient.”

One of the couple’s first dates was a dinner attended by former Prime Minister David Cameron, and their romance is described as an “open secret”.

Andrew, a retired army officer, married Camilla in 1973. They divorced in 1995.

The couple, who remain good friends, have two grown children, art curator Laura and restaurant critic Tom.

Andrew later married Rosemary Pitman, who died after a four-year battle with cancer in 2010.

A legendary womanizer, much has been said about his rumored infidelities in Netflix’s The Crown.

The third series detailed the love triangle between Andrew, Camilla, Prince Charles and Princess Anne. She had a relationship with Andrew in 1970, and he had spent five years with Camilla by then.

Camilla fell in love with Charles after they met at a polo match in Windsor that same year.

Author Jilly Cooper is based on champagne Rupert Campbell-Black in her Riders and Rivals books about her friend The Brigadier.

Andrew had one of the most distinguished military careers of his generation and was considered the hottest polo player in the country.

Anne was married to journalist Charlie Wilson for five years until they divorced in 1973. Their daughter Emma is a journalist.

Anne later married former Tory MP John Penrose. They divorced in 2008 and she was forced to give him £20million as part of the settlement.

Anne’s good friend Steve Anderson said: “Yes, it’s true that they are together and very happy.

“When Annie is being polite, they’re actually really cute together. Although I have not personally seen them together, a friend of mine was with them for dinner and it is an open secret in these aristocratic country circles that they are in a relationship.

“Andrew is also one of the few people in the world who is brave enough to tease her, so she must like him.”

Six years ago, Anne revealed she briefly joined dating site Tinder as part of a TV documentary.

She said: “I hope all women my age are having sex, why shouldn’t they be? That’s what keeps me young.”

The former newspaper columnist became the country’s highest-paid TV presenter in 2007 when she signed a three-year, £10m deal to continue The Weakest Link with her Queen of Evil character.

Her other TV credits include hosting the consumer affairs show Watchdog and the quiz show Countdown.

When approached for comment, Anne said: “It’s none of your business.”
