In 2014, she was appointed as a junior level assistant commissioner in the Bidar division in Karnataka. In her initial years as an IAS officer in the Kodagu district of Karnataka, Aneth Kamani Joy rejected more than 500 applications to use local agricultural land for commercial purposes. The rejection was based on the recommendations of a team of 18 experts who visited the local area. The applications were made by local business enterprises with the aim of commercializing and expanding existing markets. In 2017, she was appointed as the CEO and deputy secretary of the Tumkur Panchayats department in Karnataka. In 2018, landslides occurred in the Kodagu district in southern Karnataka due to heavy rains and floods. Ten local villagers in Kogadu district died in the landslides. Annies Joy, the district’s deputy superintendent of police, along with then superintendent of police Suman D Penneker and then Zilla Panchayat CEO Lakshmi Priya, went to the landslide area in Thora to inspect and attend to the disaster. The ladies were honored for their on-the-ground visits and response in the aftermath of the landslide tragedy. Annies and her colleagues walked slowly and heavily, which is usually due to the deteriorating condition of the muddy roads. She was inspecting the area and keeping a close eye on the search and rescue operations for those who went missing during the landslide.
Later, in September 2019, Annies Kanmani Joy announced in Kodagu district of Karnataka that idle government land would be given to landslide victims who lost their homes. As a result, Annies Kanmani Joy ordered the removal of unnecessary encroachments.

In 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic hit India. In March 2020, as COVID-19 cases increased and spread to various states in India, Joy announced and implemented an early lockdown in the Kodagu district. Kodagu district began reporting COVID-19 cases, following which Aneth Joy ordered the closure of all tourist attractions in the area during the lockdown. This measure was taken much earlier than the announcement of a nationwide lockdown in India. During the pandemic lockdown, the Kodagu district in Karnataka followed strict containment protocols. Her district did not report any cases for 28 consecutive days. Aneth Kammani Joy has received national recognition for playing such a responsible role in Kodagu’s success in stopping the spread of COVID-19 cases. At the end of 2020, Aneth Kammani Joy banned the felling and transportation of timber and fought against the notorious timber mafia in Kodagu. In 2021, Aneth Kammani Joy officially took a leave of absence until the end of the year. She said in an interview that she will resume work at the end of 2021 and that the leave was to spend some time in the United States with her daughter and husband. She said,
My two years tenure as Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu has been a very successful one. I am grateful to everyone for their support and warmth. The wonderful memories of Kodagu will be cherished forever. I request a break. I am leaving here to spend time with my family and my daughter Apoorva. I will return to duty in a new role later this year.”

- In 2020, a journalist from Kaveri Times (a Kannada newspaper) wrote some articles against Anith and her work on post-lockdown rules. The articles were published in the May and June 2020 editions of the newspaper. Anith filed an FIR against Vasanth, a journalist and editor of Kaveri Times (a Kannada newspaper), and was subsequently criticized for the move.
