Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou LIVE RESULT: Brutal AJ knocks out MMA star and speaks on Tyson Fury next – latest

AJ: ‘It is what it is’

After finally getting to his feet, Joshua said to the cameras: “What’s up, what’s up.

“On the road to the championship, you always need to stay focused, and I had to step away from the mission. I thought it was just a trick for broadcasters.

“When I saw the Tyson Fury fight, I thought this guy can fight, I want a piece of that.

“I wanted to welcome him and this does not take anything away from him, he can come again.

“I’m still learning and pushing, I don’t know if I’m reaching my peak, if it was me down there you’d say ‘Anthony Joshua should retire’.

“In five years I will be done fighting and sitting and all this will be a distant memory.

“I’m going to go back and lock myself in my cage and they can let me out when they want me to fight. I just want to fight.”

AJ stops Ngannou – ringside report

Anthony Joshua obliterated Francis Ngannou in two sensational rounds to cement his place back in the heavyweight world title race.

The same man who took Tyson Fury the distance of 10 rounds on his boxing debut in October – and lost the WBC Gypsy King – has never laid a glove on our 34-year-old superstar.

AJ was the perfect puncher, calm and measured while also being ruthless and savage, knocking the former UFC star to the ground twice before landing the knockout punch.

Ngannou jumped off the Riyadh canvas twice early on, but took ages to recover from a final blow that almost took his head off like the Swede.

He was subsequently given oxygen after being helped to his corner.

“Please defeat Usyk”

Eddie Hearn in an interview with DAZN. “I’m so proud of him, he was under a lot of pressure tonight. He rolled the dice because His Excellency told us that the winner would fight the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury.

“There is no heavyweight in this form who can beat Anthony Joshua. Down there is a man called Tyson Fury. Please defeat Usyk, because then we can organize the biggest fight in the history of the heavyweight division.”

“I’m going back to my cage”

Anthony Joshua gave a lot of credit to his trainer Ben Davison and the team. No wonder, two fights two knockouts.

Anthony Joshua speaking to DAZN after knocking out Francis Ngannou: “On the road to the championship, you should always stay focused. I thought that was something broadcasters should get behind.

“When I saw the Tyson Fury fight, I thought, ‘I want some of that’. He’s a great champion and that doesn’t diminish his ability. I told him not to quit boxing. He’s got two fights and he fought his best.

“The Ben Davison Performance Center, I appreciate them so much. All these guys that I’ve worked with to date. I’m just hungry. Stay hungry and all that good stuff.

“It only takes one shot at heavyweight. Joseph Parker is one of my favorite fighters, he’s been through it, and look at him now. I’m just doing it while I’m here and making the most of it. In five years I won’t be fighting.

“Eddie Hearn and my team will shape my future. I’m going back into my cage and when they let me out, I’m going to fight again.

“People of Cameroon, I appreciate you. Africa united, respect. Everyone here tonight, I appreciate you. Thank you Francis Nganno.”

On the course

Tyson Fury predicted a first-round knockout for Anthony Joshua — he wasn’t far off.

The Brit applauded his compatriot after the knockout, but it must have raised concerns.

WBA, WBO and IBF champion Oleksandr Usyk and WBC champion Fury meet on May 18 in an undisputed contest.

If Fury wins that – we’re all for it. Let’s go. It’s really going to happen!
