Archana works as an associate professor and unit head in the government sector. Gujarat Medical College. Later, she worked as an obstetrician and gynecologist at Anand Hospital in Lalshot along with her husband.

Archana Sharma committed suicide on March 30, 2022, in Dausa, Rajasthan. She is accused of murdering 22-year-old woman Asha Bairwa. Archana performed surgery on Asha and delivered the baby successfully, but after some time, Asha died due to PPH (postpartum haemorrhage). After Asha died, her family took her body home, but hours later, they took it back to the hospital. A BJP leader came to the hospital along with her family members and started gathering people and police. The police filed an FIR under Section 302 against Archana and charged her with murder. Archana was frightened and stressed by the FIR and eventually committed suicide. She left a suicide note that read “Don’t harass innocent doctors.” She also added,

A video her husband posted on social media thrust the case into the spotlight. In the video, he explained what happened and demanded justice for his wife. He said in the video,

Action should be taken against the police. How did they file a case against her under Section 302 (murder)? There should be a law to stop harassing doctors and demanding money from them. My wife died, but where were the other innocent doctors? “

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed his condolences on Archana’s death via Twitter. He also ordered the removal of Dausa district SP Anil Kumar and suspended the SHO (station officer). He wrote in his tweet,

The suicide of Dr. Archana Sharma is deeply saddening. We regard doctors as gods. In order to save the patient’s life, every doctor does his best, but if an accident occurs, there is no reason to blame the doctor. “

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) also demanded justice for Akana and held a rally.
