Ariana Grande once again proves her strength as a hair chameleon.
The 30-year-old singer donned a catsuit and underwent a brunette transformation for her latest music video for “The Boy Is Mine,” a stark contrast to the blonde hair she’s been rocking for more than a year. In an Instagram post published on Tuesday, June 11, Grande gave fans a closer look at the dark brown hair she wore for the video, as well as some behind-the-scenes footage.
The untitled post included a selfie of the Grammy winner in a mirror showing off her low-cut style. The shoulder-length bob was swept out at the ends and featured face-framing parts. She wore her signature makeup look of cat pencil, bronzed skin and soft pink lips.
Her outfit was equally glam. The singer channeled Catwoman in a leather corset, leather miniskirt and a sheer crop top with long sleeves that flowed into gloves. Of course, she also added a mask with cat ears, a nod to the cover of her third studio album in 2016. A dangerous woman.

“The Boy Is Mine” is Grande’s latest single from her seventh studio album, Eternal sunshine. The song is a reimagining of Brandy and Monica’s R&B hit of the same name from 1998. In the video, Penn Badgley plays fictional mayor Max Starling whose answer to the city’s rat infestation problem is to release stray cats.
Grande’s character prepares a love potion specifically for Starling to fall in love with before she dons a Catwoman costume and breaks into his home. She appears with blonde hair in the first part of the video, but when she dons her masked outfit, she’s a brunette.

The singer went blonde in October 2022 to prepare for the role of Glinda in the film adaptation Wicked. A year later, she celebrated her “blue anniversary” by posting a behind-the-scenes photo of her hair covered in foil.
“Happy [one] year blondieversary,” wrote Grande over the selfie.

Elsewhere in the post, she tagged Francesca De Chiara, the London-based hair colorist who was the first to lighten her hair in 2022. De Chiara could be seen in a salon photo applying bleach to her then-brunette locks.
Before her blonde hair transformation for Glinda, Grande was known for her signature brunette and occasional cherry red hair, which she often wore in a high ponytail.
The first official trailer for Wickeddirected by Jon M. Chu and also starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, was released on May 15, 2024. The adaptation will be split into two parts, with Wicked: Part One in theaters November 27.
