In an interview, when asked how he got the role of Arjun in Mahabharata, he said,

I am a firm believer in destiny. Basically I never thought of doing any TV serial. I studied in Oxford and then came back to join Taj Mahal. But acting always fascinated me. One day, I was informed that auditions were going on for a film. But unfortunately, I was late and other actors were already cast. I was a bit depressed and passed by Mr. BR Chopra’s house. I saw a bunch of famous actors and actresses there. I was fascinated. I met Mr. Gufi Pantel (who played “Shakuni” in Mahabharata). He told me that auditions for Mahabharata were going on and insisted that I go for it. I knew nothing about the script of Mahabharata at that time. To my surprise, the lines I was given were in Hindi and I was not at all familiar with the language. So, I translated the lines into English first and then went for the audition. Fortunately, a week later I got to know that I was chosen to play the role of Arjun. “

Playing a villain requires a lot of different expressions and behaviors than a typical hero. There are many different types of villains. I feel that if the villain is strong, the hero will automatically be strong. When the villain is portrayed well, the contrast is perfectly balanced.”
