Asheesh Singh is the municipal commissioner of the Indore Municipal Corporation. Under the leadership of Asheesh Singh, Indore cleared 1.3 million tonnes of garbage in just six months.

He was born on Thursday, November 29, 1984, in Kherwa village, a small city called Hardoi, near Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (age 35; as of 2019). His/her zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He has received his bachelor’s degree from CSJM Kanpur University. He has been determined to do something big for society since he was a child. To fulfill his mission of benefiting the society, he started preparing for civil services and became an IAS officer in 2010.

He is a 2010 batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre. In 2016, he was appointed CEO of Zila Panchayat, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He also served as Additional Municipal Commissioner of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. In 2018, he was appointed as the Municipal Commissioner of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC). After many visits to Indore, he found Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan to be working at a slow pace. Initially, the project was allotted to private agencies who charged Rs 475 per cubic meter. In two years they have only cleared 200,000 tons of garbage.

He decided to take up the project with his team and they managed to remove 1.3 million tonnes of waste in six months with a budget of Rs. Only 100 million rupees. When asked about this achievement, he said:

The machines are leased to us at Rs 7 lakh per machine per month. We ran the machines 14 to 15 hours a day using our own resources and removed 1.3 million tons of waste in six months. “

During the morning tour, I also monitor other projects like SMART City, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and other construction activities at the site. “

They have installed machines to separate dry and wet waste. Polythene and plastic waste are already used in road construction and further use has been completely banned. They have also launched two schemes ‘Bartan Bhandar’ and ‘Jhola Yojna’. Bartan Bhandars rents out cutlery for free to people for events or parties and stops the use of disposable cutlery. However, Jhola plans to encourage people to use khadi bags instead of plastic bags.
