Ashish Chauhan is an Indian corporate executive best known for his appointment as Managing Director and CEO of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). He also serves as Chancellor of Allahabad University, Managing Director and CEO of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and a member of the Board of Governors of IIM Raipur.

- Ashish is known as the father of modern financial derivatives in India for his contributions to financial market policy, information technology, organized retail, telecommunications and social issues in India.
- While at NSE, he helped build the trading infrastructure of NSE and NSE-50 (Nifty). He was also responsible for setting up India’s first commercial satellite telecommunications network for NSE. He also proposed the concepts of National Securities Clearing Corporation (NSCCL) and National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL).
- After he started working at BSE in 2009, he helped make BSE the fastest exchange in the world. He also introduced the concept of mobile trading. He is also responsible for BSE’s equities, currencies, interest rate derivatives and commodities businesses. In 2012, BSE made great progress because Ashish launched a small and medium-sized enterprise listing platform. In 2013, he founded BSE Star MF, a mutual fund distribution platform, which became India’s largest digital platform for mutual fund distribution in 2018.

- He grew up as a very quiet, well-behaved child, so many of his relatives thought he would eventually become a monk.
- He said in an interview that he faced a language barrier while studying at IIT Bombay as he attended a Gujarati medium school and was not good at speaking or understanding English. He also added that instead of running away, he used the dictionary as his teacher to learn English.

I start my day with prayer and end it with prayer and meditation. This is a very personal puja and part of my family tradition. I started working at 7am and got off work around 11pm. “
