Until fifth grade, he studied at Shiv Niketan Public School, New Delhi. In 1983, he completed his 12th class from VM Public School, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, New Delhi. He later studied for a BA Honors degree in History. at Hindu College, New Delhi. While he was studying in Hindu College, he started acting in plays. He later joined Act One and Sambav Theater Company in New Delhi. In 1990, he completed his acting course at the National School of Drama, New Delhi.
