Lovepreet Singh is an Indian weightlifter who won the bronze medal in the 109 weight class at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (Birmingham), setting a national record in the clean and jerk of 192 kg.

Lovepreet Singh was born on Saturday, September 6, 1997, in Bal Sachander, Amritsar, Punjab (25 years old; as of 2022). His zodiac sign is Virgo. He received his primary education from a government school in Rajasansi, Amritsar. At age 13, Lovepreet Singh was watching former weightlifters Heera Singh and Rupinder Singh (who later trained Lovepreet’s hometown ) first became interested in weightlifting. Heera Singh is a weightlifting coach while Rupinder Singh is serving in the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force). He grew up in a humble family, watching his father sew clothes in the shop outside his two-bedroom country home and his grandfather selling vegetables. Therefore, when Lovepreet decided to pursue a career in weightlifting, lack of money was the biggest obstacle that hindered his progress. At the time, their grandfather and uncle provided Loveprete with the financial assistance he needed to continue weight training. Later, he got admitted to DAV High School, Amritsar and passed grade 12. As a student, he actively participated in weightlifting competitions and won medals. After seven years of hard work and determination, he was selected for the national camp in Patiala and trained under coach Vijay Sharma.

Profession
As a student, Lovepreet started working with a vegetable wholesaler in Amritsar’s mandi (vegetable market) to sustain his weightlifting dream and supplement his father’s meager income. He used to reach Mandi at 4 am, rush home at 6 am, get ready and then immediately leave for training. In an interview, his father recalled Lovepreet’s struggles and said:
I don’t make enough, and he knows it. So, he started working part-time at a vegetable mandi in Amritsar. He used to earn around Rs 300 a day, which he spent on food and other needs. “
In addition, Lovepreet also serves as a ‘Ghodiwala’ at weddings, where his job is to provide a driver for the groom’s mare.
In 2015, he got a job in the Indian Navy. Talking about Lovepreet’s work in a 2022 interview, his brother Harpreet said:
He participated in the Indian Navy trials and was selected. He worked there as Havildar for more than five years. It helps him and us a lot. “
He started participating in weightlifting competitions in 2017 as a member of the Chandigarh Amateur Weightlifting Association.
