Thereafter, she moved to the New York Film Academy to pursue a degree in film production and liberal arts. Athiya was actively involved in extracurricular activities during her school days. She participated in sports such as football, basketball and badminton, and was also a member of the swimming team. She sang and danced and participated in drama and school choirs. Shetty has loved performing since she was a child. She would often take her mother’s sarong and drape it like a sari around her body to imitate the heroine in her room. Athiya is rumored to have been dating Aditya Bhandari, the son of DBS Bank Business Center Director Vanita Bhandari for three years. However, the couple parted ways in February 2018.

Athiya made her acting debut in the 2015 Bollywood film “Hero” in which she played the role of “Radha Mathur”. The film remained average at the box office. Next, she starred opposite Anil Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor in the romantic comedy Mubarakan. The film was a hit and her acting received positive reviews. In 2018, she danced for the song “Tere Naal Nachna” in the movie “Nawabzaade”. In the same year, Athiya played the role of ‘Anita’ in the Bollywood film Motichoor Chaknachoor, which also starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Apart from acting, she also serves as the brand ambassador for Maybelline New York India franchise. Athiya has also appeared on the covers of various magazines including Cosmopolitan, Femina, Verve, Vogue and Hello.
