Ayo Edebiri and Paul Mescal in an Emily Henry Rom-Com Together? The Author Teases ‘I Can’t Confirm or Deny’ Rumors

Ayo Edebiri and Paul Mescal’s future could include starring in a romantic comedy together.

Romance novelist Emily Henry spoke with Diversity and said the actors—who recently went viral after posing for a photo together on Instagram, sparking dating rumors—would be a good fit for a film adaptation of one of her novels.

“I think they’d be amazing. I’ve actually seen them discussed [online] for several different roles – and I definitely have a favourite,” Henry told the newspaper.

While the scripts for the film adaptations are Henry’s Beach Read, People we meet on vacation and Book loverscurrently in the works, the author said she “cannot confirm or deny anything about the cast for any of the films.

“I will say that they are two of my favorite ‘Irish’ actors,” added Henry.

The novelist was among a number of fans who celebrated the actor’s St. Patrick’s Day selfie together by sharing it on his Instagram story. A source later told PEOPLE that the two are “just friends.”

Henry said Diversity she would like Edebiri and Mescal, both 28, to be involved in films in any capacity.

“In different adaptations, either one of them would play to type, or one of those adaptations would have them both play to type, and one would have them both play against typing. It’s an interesting thing. I mean, they’re great, they could do everything,” Henry said.

One thing Henry guarantees is that any upcoming film adaptation will be directed by someone who has the best interests of her fans at heart.

“They also know that I always look out for my readers and want them to be happy. So, in my involvement with every single adaptation, my main goal is to represent the interests of the readers,” Henry said.

Edebiri is currently working on its third season Bearwhose premiere is expected sometime in June.

The actress’ portrayal of Sydney Adamu won many awards, including Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.

For his latest project, Mescal leads the long-awaited Gladiator the sequel, due out this November. Mescal plays Lucius, the son of the 2000 original GladiatorLucilla (Connie Nielson) and the villainous Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) nephew, who becomes idolized by Maximus (Russell Crowe) as he fights in the Roman gladiator rings during the film.
