Unfortunately, she could not be saved and was pronounced dead after suffering severe head injuries.

A pet dog, which does not belong to dangerous breeds, was thrown out of the house on Sunday and humanely destroyed.

West Midlands Police said: “A baby has tragically died after being bitten by a pet dog at a home in Coventry.

“We were called to a property in Shorncliffe Road shortly after 3pm on Sunday. Along with our colleagues from the ambulance service, we arrived within minutes.

“A seven-month-old girl suffered serious head injuries after being bitten by the family dog ​​in the house.

“Medics treated her at the scene before she was rushed to hospital for further treatment. Tragically, she died a short time later.

“Our thoughts remain with her family at this devastating time.

“We are in the early stages of our investigation and our inquiries are continuing.”
