Bad Bunny Would’ve Worked in Culinary Arts Had His Music Not Succeeded: Cooking Was ‘Something Creative’

If Bad Bunny wasn’t going to be in the studio cooking hits, he was thinking about how to prepare gourmet meals.

The Puerto Rican superstar, 29, appears on the cover Interview magazineissue for March, and in an interview conducted by Benicio Del Toro, he revealed what he would have pursued as a career if music hadn’t worked out. Although the singer admitted that it is difficult for him to imagine any scenario in which he does not create music, he said that he would go into “cooking”.

“If I wasn’t going anywhere with my music, I’d be working in the culinary arts,” he revealed. “I considered cooking something creative because of course there are recipes, but there is also the possibility to make your own dishes, to create your own taste.”

Despite his interest in the world of food, the Grammy winner explained that music has always been his heart. “I’ve actually dreamed about this career so much,” Del Toro told the publication. “I would come home from school and go straight to the computer, make beats and learn to record my own music.”

The reggaeton star (whose real name is Benito Martínez Ocasio) added: “Sometimes I would say, ‘Damn, if this isn’t meant to be, I don’t know what I’m going to do because I don’t have another dream.'”

The “Tití Me Preguntó” artist also noted that he feels like he “has to be realistic” and that he’s working to get by before his music career takes off. “I wasn’t going to sit around thinking I was going to get everything I wanted, so I went to college. I had my job [bagging groceries at Econo] to at least pay for gas,” shared the singer/rapper.

While Bad Bunny’s dreams of a career as an artist have obviously come true, he’s also managed to indulge his love of cooking.

In 2022, the hitmaker collaborated with restaurateur David Grutman to open Gekkō in Miami. The restaurant fuses steakhouse favorites with Japanese cuisine, including raw sushi and sashimi offerings, to create a contemporary menu featuring items such as olive-fed filet mignon, chilled oysters with watermelon granita, and lobster fried rice.

Since opening, the luxury venue has been visited by a number of star guests, including David Beckham, Eva Longoria, Kaia Gerber, Kim Kardashian and many more.

The “I Like It” artist has dropped his fifth studio album Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana (Nobody knows what will happen tomorrow) in October 2023. He will soon embark on the Most Wanted Tour, which he is taking to arenas across North America, beginning in late February.
