Ballerina Farm’s Hannah Neeleman and Her 8 Kids Have an Unexpected Halloween Tradition Far from Their Utah Home (Exclusive)

Hannah Neeleman may live the country lifestyle most days of the year, but on some spooky nights in the past, she took her extended family to the Big Apple.

While talking to PEOPLE about Ballerina Farm’s new Farmer protein powder line, the 34-year-old influencer looked ahead to Halloween and recalled some of her favorite ways to get into the holiday spirit. In previous years, she and her husband, Daniel, decided to take their eight children trick-or-treating to a surprising location far from their sprawling acres in Utah, in both distance and spirit: New York City.

“When I was in college, that was my favorite thing, going to the Upper West Side for Halloween, so we took our kids a few times,” says the Juilliard-educated ballerina, whose dance experience inspired the name of the produce business that leads with Daniel.

“It’s so much fun. There’s nothing like it,” he adds of the family’s East Coast October tradition. “My boys recently asked, ‘Are we going to New York again for Halloween?'”

The viral sensation says she’s not sure if she’ll be able to make it to Manhattan this year, but when they spend the holiday at home, they’re celebrating in the exact opposite style.

“It’s so different here because our kids are literally trick-or-treating on their horses. They just jump on their horses and then go down our county road and play trick-or-treating,” Neeleman explains.

The 2023 Mrs. America winner says her children — whose ages range from 6 months to 12 years — appreciate a change of scenery every now and then, just like Neeleman herself.

“My kids love to travel,” she tells PEOPLE. “I think they inherited that from me. I like to see new things and feel the energy of new places.”

Plus, they’re “good travelers,” says the proud mom, adding, “I don’t know why, but they are. They really enjoy eating out and airplanes and seeing new things, so the trips have been good.”
