Screen Actors Guild honors Barbra Streisand.
On Thursday, SAG-AFTRA announced that Streisand, 81, will receive a SAG Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming 30th SAG Awards in February.
The honor is given to actors who exemplify “the finest ideals of the acting profession,” according to the press release, which also referred to EGOT honoree Streisand as “one of the greatest entertainers of all time.”
“Ever since I was a young girl sitting in the Loew’s Kings Theater in Brooklyn, I dreamed of being one of those actresses I watched on the silver screen,” Streisand said in a statement.
“Films were a portal to a world I could only imagine. Although I was an unlikely candidate, my dream somehow came true. This award is especially meaningful to me because it comes from my fellow actors, whom I greatly admire.”

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher called Streisand “an icon and an unparalleled talent, a force of nature who has woven her brilliance seamlessly through the fabric of our industry” in a statement Thursday.
“From her earliest days of conquering audiences on Broadway to her unforgettable roles in cinematic classics such as Fun girl, What we wereand A star is born“Barbra’s ability to bring authenticity to her characters is nothing short of extraordinary,” Drescher, 66, said.

A press release identifies the award recipients as “well-established performers who have contributed to enhancing the image of the acting profession and have a history of active involvement in humanitarian and public endeavors.”

Streisand is the 59th winner of the award: Sally Field and Helen Mirren accepted the honor at the SAG Awards in 2023 and 2022, respectively.
The announcement comes just over a month after Streisand released her memoir My name is Barbrapulling back the curtain on her experiences on stage, screen and as a musical artist over six decades.
Streisand recently told PEOPLE that she doubts she’ll make another movie.
“No, not really,” she said then. “I mean, it was in 2009 when I fought for the rights to play Gypsy. In other words, it becomes exhausting trying to figure out the structure of the film and then it doesn’t happen.”
The 2024 SAG Awards will air live on Netflix on Saturday, February 24, at 8:00 PM ET.
