Barry Gibb’s 5 Children: Everything to Know

Barry Gibb kept his family close, even as he rose to fame. After marrying Linda Gray in 1970, the couple had five children: Stephen, Ashley, Travis, Michael and Alexandra.

Before growing his family, Barry formed the Bee Gees with his brothers Robin and Maurice. Their band had cult hits like “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” and “You Should Be Dancing” before exploding to stardom when they created the soundtrack for Saturday night fever.

Barry and Linda’s first son, Stephen, was born in 1973. Four years later, Ashley joined the family. In 1981, Travis was born, and three years later, Barry and Linda welcomed Michael. Their youngest and only daughter Aleksandra was born in 1991.

The family lived in Miami and London while the children were growing up, but Barry told PEOPLE in 1989 that his children also came on tour. “I can’t imagine what it’s like to be a successful pop star without a family to support you,” he said.

In the 1980s, the Bee Gees were embroiled in record label battles that stopped them releasing an album for eight years, but Barry said the hiatus was actually a good thing.

“Those were the happiest years of our lives because we were raising our children,” he said. “We wrote and produced songs for other people, which didn’t take up 100 percent of our time.”

Now Barry is a solo artist who often collaborates with his sons Stephen and Ashley on new music.

Stephen Gibb, 50

Linda and Barry had their first son, Stephen, on December 1, 1973. Their eldest took up the guitar at age 13 and has been playing ever since, performing in the metal bands 58 and Black Label Society.

In 2013, Stephen, who often accompanies Steve, joined his father on his mythology tour through Australia and New Zealand. Maurice’s daughter Samantha also played with the band.

“It’s a thrill to look to the left and see Sami and look to the right and see my oldest son,” Barry said Australian in that time. “And they’re both fantastic.”

Stephen and his brother Ashley collaborated extensively with their father in 2016, co-writing his album In Now. Barry said Board that he needs the energy of his sons to return to music. “They give me that youth,” he said at the time of the album’s release. “They give me that fire.”

Stephen also seems to be influenced by his father. On September 1, 2020, Barry’s oldest Instagrammed a photo of his parents on their wedding day. “Happy 50th anniversary to these two crazy kids and happy 74th birthday @officialbarrygibb,” he wrote in the caption. “You both continue to inspire and motivate me to be a better person. I couldn’t love you more.”

Stephen has been married to Gloria Levas since 2002 and they have two children: Angus and Nina Gibb.

Ashley Gibb, 46

Linda and Barry had a son, Ashley, on September 8, 1977. He didn’t set out to become a songwriter – most of his life was focused on tennis – but thanks to his musical family, he found success in the industry.

In 2005, Barry was invited to collaborate on Barbra Streisand Dirty passions album, continuation of the album Guilty on which the musicians collaborated. The father of five brought in Stephen and Ashley to co-write the new project. Although, according to BoardAshley’s previous songwriting experience was an amateur song written for a girl in the 90s, Barry was impressed and loved working with his sons.

Barry released his second solo album called In Now in 2016. All 15 songs from the album were co-written with Stephen and Ashley.

“The album is my take on life,” Barry said Board 2016. “My feelings and my journey with my brothers, and without my brothers, with my parents and without my parents, and with my own family, seeing my children have their own children.”

Ashley is married to Therese Gibb and they have a son, Lucas Gibb.

Travis Gibb, 42

Barry and Linda had their third son, Travis, on January 10, 1981. He is a real estate agent in Miami, where he spent some time growing up.

Travis is married to Stacy Bash Gibb and they have two children: Layla and Liam Gibb. On Instagram, the father of two occasionally shares snapshots from his life, such as hiking the Appalachian Trail and celebrating his children’s birthdays.

In 2013, Barry spoke with Guard about his new life as a grandparent after years of rock life.

“I am the happiest in my life,” he said. “I have seven grandchildren. I got to relive watching Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. I spend a lot of hours happy about what happened to us, because it might never have happened, any of those hits.”

Michael Gibb, 39

Linda and Barry had their fourth son, Michael, on December 1, 1984. The father named him after his godfather and one of Barry’s close friends, Michael Jackson.

Unlike his two older brothers, Michael did not follow in his father’s footsteps. He continued to act, including in films Stan Man and Friends.

Alexandra Gibb, 31

Barry and Linda had their only daughter, Alexandra, on December 29, 1991.

Alexandra inspired one of Barry’s most iconic pop culture moments. When Jimmy Fallon was a cast member Saturday night live, one of his recurring sketches was “The Barry Gibb Talk Show”, where he played Barry the hairy chest and Justin Timberlake played his brother Robin. The skits always ended with Barry losing his temper and yelling at the guests or hitting the stage.

Ashley said Board 2016 that Barry “couldn’t watch it at first” and wasn’t flattered by the parody. When Fallon invited Barry to appear in the sketch, his instinct was to decline, but Alexandra convinced him to participate. He wore a matching three-piece white suit to the tune of “Barry” and “Robin” and sang the show’s theme song with Fallon and Timberlake.

“When we were walking around the set, I could see these guys pissing their pants, they were so excited to have him in the room,” Stephen said. Board. “He is unconscious. He doesn’t get it. It’s wonderful.”

Although she keeps her life out of the limelight, she has joined her father at several events over the years, including his investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace in 2018.
