Beran Skor could be Darth Vader’s apprentice. In “Legends,” Vader followed the Sith’s thinking and tried to overthrow the Sith Master by training Starkiller to help him fight the Emperor. But in canon, Vader uncharacteristically doesn’t try to train anyone to help him take down Palpatine. Vader trains the Inquisitors, but it’s more of a distraction that Palpatine has assigned him to oversee. None of the Inquisitors showed enough potential to challenge Palpatine, and Vader knew it. Still, it seems odd that Vader never bothered to take on apprentices.

This ties in with George Lucas’ belief that Vader took more apprentices long before he was looking for Luke. The Empire Strikes Back. Both Belan and Anakin were once Jedi Knights, but broke away from the Order and sought power elsewhere. Not all the details are known about why Vader chose Beran, but the pieces of the puzzle dovetail.
Belan knows too much about Darth Vader’s true identity
The biggest evidence that Beran is Vader’s apprentice is that Beran knows Vader’s secrets. Not only did he know about Anakin Skywalker and his fall to the dark side, but he also knew about Ahsoka’s history with Anakin. Vader’s true identity is not known to the public. It’s possible that Belan just fought alongside Anakin during the Clone Wars, or he may have sided with Vader at one point during the Empire’s reign. But none of these theories explain how he came to know Anakin, or why Ahsoka never heard of or met Belan. Similar to Reva Sevander Obi-Wan Kenobi, Belan must have escaped Order 66 knowing that Anakin was a traitor to the Jedi. Alternatively, Vader himself may have told him about his past, or enough for Belan to put the pieces together himself.
Did Darth Vader consider Belan his apprentice?
Vader fiercely protects his identity. If Belan was Vader’s apprentice and knew Anakin Skywalker’s history, then he must have meant something to Vader. Like most Sith, Vader likely viewed Beran as a mere tool. Like Starkiller, Belan exists only to help him take down Palpatine and complete secret missions that Vader himself was unable to complete. Due to the veil of secrecy surrounding him, it’s likely that no one – not even Palpatine – knew Belan existed when Vader was training him. Vader may not even have officially bestowed on him a title yet. This explains why almost no one knows about Beran, but why everyone knows about Beran.
