Every chainsaw man The battles are filled with some of the greatest gore in comic book history. While fans who’ve read all 97 chapters will no doubt agree that the most disturbing, even nihilistic moments in chapter 64 occur when things are really going to hell, there’s one battle that’s actually bloodier than the others, just Because it lasts too long.
In Chapter 14, a group of demon hunters (including Denji, a human who can transform into the series’ eponymous monster) enter a specific hotel building as part of an ongoing effort to find the deadly Gun Demon. However, the building has come under the control of a hauntingly grotesque Eternal Demon, leaving them trapped on the eighth floor forever. For example, when they climb the stairs to the next level, they find themselves back where they started. They stayed so long that the witcher took naps every once in a while as he planned his escape.
After giving the traumatized characters some time for panic to creep into their panicked minds, the Eternal Devil reveals that if they give him Chainsaw Man life or death, he’ll let them escape so he can feast on his remains. Worst of all, the devil’s heart (and weakness) is far away from them, so they have no choice. The giant blob that’s been taunting them is just the inside of its stomach, growing bigger the more scared its victims are. Eventually, Danji comes up with a sinister twisted plan based on the same unsavory observation: The Eternal Devil is apparently afraid of his chainsaw and can still feel pain, so he’ll hack him to death until the Devil allows them to leave. Danji then jumped into the devil’s mouth, tearing his way out as if he had just emerged from the water. (This scene is also the birthplace of one of the series’ most iconic images.)
Of course, this particular strategy has a downside. Once Danji’s blood is depleted, his chainsaw will retract into his head. Since he fights constantly, logically he will soon lose his use of brutal weapons. But as it began to retract, Danji had another disturbing thought: drinking the blood of the eternal devil. Even though it “tastes disgusting like a rat,” drinking the devil’s blood allows Danji to keep wielding his chainsaw, turning him into a “perpetual motion machine,” as Danji puts it. Even though the devil is evil, the reader can’t help but feel sorry for him because this goes on for days. During this time, the demon screamed in pain while Danji slashed and drank the blood that spurted from the demon’s wounds so that he could continue to tear into another area. Finally, the devil couldn’t stand it anymore and he gave in and begged to die.
So while there are plenty of other extremely violent and bloody carnages, Chainsaw Man’s battle with the Eternal Evil stands out simply because of its longevity, and how Danji extended the carnage for so long . This is even more impressive considering Denji’s regenerative abilities have allowed him to lose the same limb multiple times, with the frequency of this increasing in more brutal ways as the series progresses. During the confrontation with the Katana Man in Chapter 37, Tangi’s arms were chopped off. In Chapter 51, Danji lost his arm again while fighting the Bomb Demon, who used her explosive power to blow the arm off of him. That’s not even mentioning the hellish event in Chapter 64 where assassins from all over the world come to kill Chainsaw. Man, how the so-called Santa Claus can only be defeated with the terrifying ability to change minds, or when Denji tries to slaughter the invincible controlling demon.
