BBC Breakfast presenter announces major life change after giving birth

BBC Breakfast presenter Emma Vardy has confirmed that she will not be returning to the red sofa, but is preparing to go on a “big adventure” in the US.

Earlier this summer, the journalist, who is the BBC’s Ireland correspondent, stepped in for Nina Warhurst who is currently on maternity leave. Meanwhile, Emma welcomed her first child last month.

“We’ve certainly had our hands (and hearts) full lately, now my little family has a big adventure ahead,” she wrote. “After an amazing 5 years in Northern Ireland, Jago Fionn @mr_plusone and I are off to real Hollywood!”

Confirming her new role at the BBC, Emma added: “Not for my acting skills, but to become the BBC’s LA correspondent… covering everything from red carpets to the presidential election and catching a few waves.

“I absolutely loved my time in Northern Ireland and it will always have a special place in my heart. I will cherish our final weeks before we say goodbye to NI [heart emoji].”

“Introducing my best breaking news story ever,” she captioned the post. “Little boy Jago Fionn is here.” She added: “With only a few hours, she is a little shy. A big thank you to the dedicated and talented midwives and doctors at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, for looking after us so well. Charmed and so in love.”

This is Emma’s first child with her husband Aaron Adams, whom she married in March 2022. Back in May, the journalist shared the news about the baby with her fans.

“Well, it’s definitely getting a little harder to balance… the extra burden to hitchhike,” she captioned the cute pic, showing off her swimsuit bump with a surfboard in hand.

“Still managing to catch a few waves. Great weekend in Co Sligo and a very exciting summer ahead!”
