Karishma Patel revealed the news in a post on social media and was flooded with well wishes from her friends and colleagues.

After keeping her message short and sweet, she revealed her new role, saying: “I’m going to a not-for-profit organization called Britain Palestine Media Centre, where I’ll be their senior social media officer – looking after all things social media journalism media!”

It marks a slight change in direction for the star, who will leave the world of broadcasting and go all digital.

Over the past few months, Karishma has worked specifically as a Middle East expert for Radio 5 Live and insisted she still “wants to continue” working and raising awareness on issues relating to Gaza.

Another added: “Congratulations! Looking forward to following your work there.”

Before fellow BBC journalist and newsreader Jo Hornby added: “Good luck dear, we miss you!”
