The weather presenter has been a regular feature on BBC Yorkshire for the past eight years.

Announcing her shock departure in a lengthy statement, Abbie told fans: “The only thing crazier than landing your dream job is quitting for it…

“Long, emotional caption, so brace yourself.

“8 years ago today I walked into BBC Yorkshire for the first time as a weather presenter and, despite the initial 2.30am alarms, I’ve been living my real dream at this amazing corporation ever since.

“But as they say, all good things must come to an end, and the end is in sight (still a couple of weeks off, so more spam to come).”

Abbie added that she first started working for the Beeb when she was just 22.

She continued: “I’ll be sharing more over the next few weeks about the future, but I think it’s fitting on my eighth weather anniversary to look back and remember what truly was a dream come true.

“Thank you for having me on your screens, on your radios and on your phones. It was a privilege I did not lose.
