The father of five says he got into a shooting outside his home as a result of an attempted carjacking.
According to a Facebook post from the Winnetka, Illinois Police Department, the incident happened in the 400 block of Sheridan Road around 5 a.m. on Monday, May 27.
In an interview with ABC7 Chicago, the homeowner said he was sleeping when he heard his car catch fire outside. He ran out of his house to find three unidentified people trying to steal two of his vehicles, a Range Rover and a Maserati.

He told the paper that the suspects were able to take his car keys from the garage after breaking into his office.
Noting that his five daughters were asleep in the house, he said he approached the suspects, asked them to stop and threatened to shoot. He told ABC7 Chicago that one suspect fired at him from the street and he returned fire.
The Winnetka Police Department confirmed in an update that “a preliminary investigation indicates that one of the offenders fired at the homeowner and the homeowner returned fire.”
Although no injuries were reported, two of the suspects reportedly fled the scene in an unknown vehicle, while the other left the area on foot.

According to the department, one of the suspects, believed to be male, “was wearing a black mask, a dark hooded top, dark athletic pants and sneakers.” The other, also possibly a man, “was wearing a black mask, a white hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.”
The third suspect is of unknown gender and race and is believed to be driving a silver four-door Audi Seda.
Although police said Monday’s incident was an “isolated” event, nearby resident Tim Connell said he was “a little concerned.”

“I was surprised that someone would fire a gun, and it worries me a little bit. It’s definitely not something I would want to go into or be around. But I would never expect that,” he told ABC7 Chicago. “This is very unexpected. I’d probably just let them take the car and worry about it later.”
