Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Just Revealed Why They're Growing Out Their Beards Together

There’s nothing better than a chin-up to cement a bromance. Just ask Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

In a new interview with Extra TV which was released on November 4, the cast, producing partners and best friends revealed that they are more involved these days with their upcoming Netflix movie, RIP.

“We’re in the middle of it. That’s why we’re bearded,” Damon said of working on the crime thriller.

“Everything you need to know, you can see right here,” Affleck joked.

Over the past few months, the stars have been slowly growing out their facial hair for what is now known as their new movie.

On September 30, Damon, 54, was photographed at the opening night McNeal in New York with a big beard and mustache. A few months after his split from Jennifer Lopez last August, Affleck, 52, was seen arriving at his Los Angeles offices looking scruffy after sporting a clean-shaven face over the summer.

Details about RIP have yet to be discovered. But according to Netflix, the project is being produced by Oscar-winning company Artists Equity and written and directed by Joe Carnahan. In addition to Affleck and Damon, Teyana Taylor, Néster Carbonell, Flashis Sasha Calle and Silent nightCatalina Sandino Moreno.

“Artists Equity, we’ve done eight movies in a few years and this is our first partnership with Netflix,” Affleck said Extraadding that they “figure out” small details.

“We are all very excited. We have a great cast and we’re really, really I am looking forward to the release of the film,” he added.

Affleck and Damon recently collaborated on Little things like these (with Cillian Murphy) and a wrestling biopic Unstoppable, who features Lopez as the subject, Anthony Robles’ mother Judy.

Talking to Party tonight months after breaking up with Lopez, Affleck praised his ex-wife’s performance. “Jennifer is spectacular,” he said in an interview in November, also praising the rest of the cast for their work on the film, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September.

Unstoppable is a very different film than this, but in some ways it’s similarly rooted in the passion of really talented artists, and [director] Billy Goldenberg and Jennifer and Don Cheadle and Jharrel [Jerome] and Bobby Cannavale, they were all really passionate about this movie,” Affleck said.

“It kind of speaks to a certain kind of thing, I guess, that appeals to us, which is that we really believe in the power of storytelling when the people involved are deeply emotionally connected to the story,” he added.
