Bethenny Frankel Says She Apologized to Longtime ‘Nemesis’ Martha Stewart: ‘I Kissed the Ring’

Bethenny Frankel opened up about her recent reconciliation with Martha Stewart.

The The Real Housewives of New York alum, 53, shared in her podcast Just B with Bethenny Frankel that she recently apologized to the businesswoman, 82, and “kissed the proverbial ring” at the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in New York. Frankel and Stewart’s relationship began when the former was runner-up at Stewart’s Intern: Martha Stewart in 2005.

Frankel explained that when she saw Stewart and got a chance to talk to her, she told her, “‘You’re amazing. What you’ve been doing is amazing. I’m so impressed.’ I said, ‘I kiss the proverbial ring,’ I said, ‘I’m sorry for everything that happened.'”

“Full tail, right between the legs, I don’t know what I’m sorry for,” Frankel admitted. “It doesn’t fucking matter, which means we’re both grown women with nothing to prove in this life. And he just hit differently. It was just different.”

Once Frankel walked over and “kissed the ring in respect,” she noticed how different their interaction was—and her own confidence. “Because me, when I was younger … there was something shakier about me,” Frankel said. “I haven’t earned it yet…I haven’t fought, walked, talked.”

Frankel explained that during their interaction, she knew she had “earned” her “seat at the table,” explaining that she had “come through the ranks” of the job. She said that she and “everyone else” know her value and noted how “she can get the same people on speed dial that [Stewart] can.”

“I felt different walking there, but she treated me differently, received me differently. … She just met me in the middle. We were both two women. There was just a vibe,” Frankel asserted. “We were like equals. And that fell through and I gave her what she deserved and what she deserved.”

Although Frankel apologized to Stewart, she said the dynamic of the relationship can still feel like a child in the company of a parent. However, she noted that their dynamic has “changed over the last few years” as Frankel has become “more empowered” and considers herself “on [Stewart’s] level.”

Frankel added that there are “crazy stories” about her relationship with Stewart. “The comments she made to me are insane,” she said.

“It was really that hostile kind of friendly rivalry,” Frankel continued. “It was back and forth. But it was never like that, mean. It was just kind of, a healthy fight. For no good reason.”
