“Surely you haven’t seen these characters before the day [television]”Michele Val Jean, Behind the door Creator, showrunner and executive producer, speaks exclusively to people. “They are really close, a black family realized and are a mess like hell. It’s not like they are perfect; they are also messy.”
Black shows revolutionized by TV from ‘Julia’ and ‘Jeffersons’ to ‘Empire’
Val Jean adds that like many other black families, no matter how many “messy” things they become, Dubupes will always have a back to each other.
“When Push comes to push, they could be angry with each other, not speaking to each other, but when someone in that family is in trouble, others will be there to get them out. It is the basis of the show,” says Val Jean. “It’s the basis of most soap operas, all dramas, but it must be rooted in something. And this show is rooted in the family.”
Although it is known that Duprees brings drama, there are several tropics of soap that Val Jean plans to avoid – at least for now.
“I think my show will be more based on it. I don’t think we will see it. … Well, it’s hard to say sometimes. I don’t want to say ‘never’ if it succeeds. Because most of the part, we won’t have aliens or something.
For Val Jean, writing soap opera on “rich blacks who were confused” have been a long dream for decades. She started Generations, The first soap opera to display a black family. It aired on the NBC from 1989 to 1991.

“Sheila Ducksworth is the engine behind it all,” Val Jean says.
Ducksworth, who also serves as an executive producer, says her desire to portray her family like Duprees on daily television stems from the lack of a black national team in the genre.
“It’s just something I thought it was missing, something I didn’t see before,” he tells people.
“We would get our own, two or three characters of 40 in a soap opera that was culturally and racially diverse, and that was it,” Duckworth says. “I always wanted to see more a reflection of real life. So it was really important from a very youth, specifically, seeing a soap where more people looked like me.”

“I think people around all over the world see that this is another view of black life in America, I think it will be important,” she adds. “It’s very aspirational and yet achieved, and that’s what we want to expose.”
Behind the door It contains a multigenerational role that also includes white, Asian and Latinx actors, as well as characters with various sexual identities. Ducksworth says viewers can expect that Win “All”.

At the same time, he notes that the orientation of the series is scored in layers and gives the world a unique view of the black experience.
“We set it up in the place where this is soft. This is a place to say that it has the greatest concentration of black wealth throughout the country. Still, there was never a reflector. These aspects are real, [and] We turn on [them] In our show to reflect the size and splendor of black culture in America. ”

While the national political and racial climate is ongoing conversation, Val Jean is excited about the viewer Behind the door Serve as an escape to “transcend it all.”
“We are trying to produce and write the most fun possible show and take you out of it all for an hour,” she says. “The world does not go. It will be there when you turn off the show. It will still be out of control. But when you sit there by watching the show, you can forget it all and just get into these people and their Shenanigans.

“I want to tell stories that feel fresh and extremely contemporary. One of the biggest aspects that was in DNA from the beginning is the pursuit,” Duckworth adds. “It’s present, it’s strong, it’s really in soap, and I’m excited about it, because the better than hope, honestly? To see people see if you are something you strive for, there are people who have it. We also think that we This only comes a lot of feelings that people can enjoy watching.
Still Behind the door The debut comes given that classic soap operas are faced with cancellation, Val Jean and Duckworth hope to give their mark for decades to come.
“I don’t see why we can’t be 100 years,” Duckworth says. “It’s an unbelieving time for TV, not just daily TV – just television. It’s incredible, incredible time, and we can’t wait to start and bring the world what is fresh, new, different and truly unique.”
