Biggest Snubs of 2024 Oscar Nominations: Leonardo DiCaprio, Fantasia Barrino, Saltburn and More

There were shocks and surprises in this year’s Oscar nominations.

The nominees for the 96th annual Academy Awards were revealed Tuesday morning, with Oppenheimer leading the way, earning a total of 13 nominations. Poor people follows with 11, doc Killers of the Flower Moon got 10

Among the nominees in the acting categories, 10 stars earned their first ever nominations: Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Danielle Brooks (Purple), Sterling K. Brown (American fiction), Colman Domingo (Rustin), America Ferrera (Barbie), Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers) and Jeffrey Wright (American fiction).

However, there were notable absences. Leonardo DiCaprio was excluded from the best actor category. IN Killers of the Flower Moon, the actor, 49, played Ernest Burkhart opposite Lily Gladstone, who earned a Best Actress nomination. Costar Robert De Niro also received a Best Supporting Actor nod for the film.

BarbieGreta Gerwig and Margot Robbie Shockingly Snubbed for Best Director, Actress Nominations at 2024 Oscars

Purple it received only one nomination: for supporting actress Danielle Brooks. That meant a rebuke for the movie-musical in the Best Picture category, as well as cast members Fantasia Barrino and Taraji P. Henson.

While Barbie earned a number of top honors, including Best Picture, Greta Gerwig was left out of the Best Director category, although she received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. Additionally, Margot Robbie did not earn a nomination for her title role. (The star, 33, however, was recognized as a producer in the Best Picture lineup.)

Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn and Ava Duvernay Origin received zero nominations. FerrariPenelope Cruz was left out of the Best Supporting Actress category, as she was May DecemberJulianne Moore in a role inspired by Mary Kay Letourneau. Her co-stars Natalie Portman and Charles Melton were also left out of the acting categories despite several previous Oscar nominations.

Willem Dafoe failed for his supporting role in Poor peoplealthough his co-star Mark Ruffalo slipped into that category, and the film received far more praise.

May December Star Charles Melton Dropped From Best Supporting Actor Race at 2024 Oscars

While Barbie managed two songs in the Best Original Song category, Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night Away” did not make the cut. Instead, Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” and Mark Ronson’s Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken” earned a nod.

Drama Past lives it won nominations for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, but star Greta Lee missed out on a spot in the Best Actress category. Also, Judy Blume’s coming-of-age comedy Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret it didn’t register in the Best Adapted Screenplay category or translate into a Best Supporting Actress nod for Rachel McAdams.
