New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and his longtime girlfriend, Linda Holliday, have split after their “relationship ran its course,” a source tells PEOPLE.
Belichick, 71, and Holliday, 60, had been in a relationship since 2007, but according to a source, the couple had been “quite apart for a while.”
The insider adds that the problem in the couple’s relationship that ultimately led to their separation “is not new.”
“Bill is all about football and is very busy now. He doesn’t want a lot of public attention on this,” a source tells PEOPLE.

With the NFL season just starting, Belichick “has a lot on his plate, a good family, and he’s meeting people all the time,” according to the insider.
Representatives for Belichick and Holliday did not respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.

Holliday is the president of the Bill Belichick Foundation, which apparently further complicated her split with Belichick.
“They need to clarify issues arising from the long relationship, as well as her role in his professional life,” says the source.

“She’ll still be on Jupiter, and we’ll see what happens,” the source added.

Another source close to the situation tells PEOPLE that Belichick bought a house last year in Jupiter, Florida, where Linda is from and not far from where the couple reportedly met in Palm Beach.
“Linda is a wonderful person. Bill bought a house in Jupiter for himself and Linda, but now she’s going to get the house,” the source added.

Linda is the mother of adult twin daughters, Ashley and Kat Hess, both 30, from a previous relationship. The twins are from Boston, according to their joint Instagram account.
