Amidst the great challenges and changes facing society today, from artificial intelligence to climate change to economic inequality, Bill Gates says he is optimistic that solutions can be found to improve the world.
The 68-year-old billionaire, Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist tackles these issues and more in his new five-part series, What’s next? The future with Bill Gatespremieres September 18 on Netflix.

The trailer also invokes misinformation in the age of social media as Gates reads a conspiratorial comment: “Bill Gates is part of a reptilian race that includes Tom Hanks and Lady Gaga.”
It then quickly cuts to the billionaire’s conversation with Gaga, who says: “Entertainment and information are much closer than ever before. There is no way to stop it.”

As Gates says in the trailer, he feels he has a lot of work to do, whether it’s divesting the environment of hydrocarbons or eradicating diseases like malaria.
But there is still room for hope.
At the end of the trailer, an off-screen person asks Gates if he can achieve those goals, to which he replies, “Absolutely.”
