Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford have gone their separate ways.

The pop star was first linked to The Neighborhood frontman in October 2022, and the musical duo were increasingly seen together until she confirmed their relationship in November.

Although they often faced backlash from fans due to their 10-year age difference, Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell defended their romance. “Look, as long as she’s happy, I’m happy,” O’Connell said Hey! News on GQ Entertainment Men of the Year in November 2022.

Meanwhile, the more private Rutherford hasn’t said much about the relationship. Eilish, on the other hand, made their romance official on Instagram by posting their matching Halloween costumes (and poking fun at their age difference).

However, in May 2023, Eilish’s rep confirmed to PEOPLE that the couple had called it quits after less than a year of dating. The representative added that they remained “good friends” and that the split was amicable.

While it’s unclear when exactly they met, a fan account posted a photo of Eilish with Rutherford on Twitter 2017. The photo is probably from 2016 or 2017 based on her silver-grey hair color – the look she wore when she first stepped onto the scene with “Ocean Eyes”.

After about a year of dating, Eilish broke up with ex-boyfriend Matthew Tyler Vorce. The split turned ugly when fans began to speculate that Vorce had been cheating on Eilish. “No one cheated on anyone. Relationships end. Simple as that,” Vorce wrote on his Instagram Story on May 30, confirming the breakup and hitting back at the allegations. “Creating rumors and LIES on the internet is dangerous.”

Eilish and Rutherford were first spotted together on October 13, 2022. TMZ snapped photos of the pair cozying up at vegan restaurant Crossroads Kitchen in West Hollywood. Although they appeared to be comfortable together, there was no PDA, so the status of the relationship was unclear at the time.

Things turned romantic between the two a week later, when they were seen kissing outside Indian restaurant Lal Mirch in Studio City on October 18, 2022. A casually dressed Eilish locked lips with the frontman as she caressed his arms during a sweet embrace.

A representative for Eilish did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment at the time.

November 1, 2022: Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford become Instagram official

Eilish made the relationship official on Instagram shortly after their PDA went viral. Life is awesome, she wrote in a series of photos with a clown emoticon.

One of the photos showed Eilish and Rutherford in a couple’s Halloween costume that mocked critics of their age difference. Eilish dressed as a baby with big eyelashes and a pink hat, while Rutherford showed off a bald head with gray hair and old man’s clothes.

November 8, 2022: Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford make red carpet debut in pajamas

A few days later, Eilish and Rutherford made their public debut with a red carpet appearance at the 2022 LACMA Art + Film Gala together wearing matching Bedtime-themed outfits.

Both singers stunned in brown Gucci pajamas with fur slippers, with Eilish wearing a sleep mask over her forehead and a floor-length cape draped off her shoulders. They also wore a thick quilt and settled under it together.

Rutherford proved that he has a good relationship with Eilish’s family on December 16, 2022, when they all appeared together on stage at her final show at the hometown KIA Forum to present her with a cake and celebrate her 21st birthday together.

Eilish wore a red velvet dress with white fringe inspired by Mrs. Claus, while Rutherford wore a red button-up sweater with green pants.

The couple took sweet photos in front of her birthday balloons and took a romantic photo while cuddling up in a photo booth with Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber. “We can confirm that Billie and Jesse have amicably parted ways and remain good friends,” the rep said in a statement. “All cheating rumors are false. They are both currently single.”

The pair were last seen together at Coachella in April.
