Billie Eilish Opens Up About Coming Out: ‘I Didn’t Realize People Didn’t Know’

Billie Eilish reveals more about the comments she made in a recent magazine interview.

Pop superstar, 21, caught Diversity at the annual Hitmakers Brunch event on Saturday, where she opened up about saying she was “attracted” to women in last month’s issue of Power of Women magazine.

“No, I didn’t,” Eilish said when asked Diversity if she was going to come out in the article. “But I kind of thought, ‘Isn’t that obvious?’… I didn’t know that people didn’t know.”

“I just don’t believe in it,” she added of the concept of coming out. “I just wonder, ‘Why can’t we just exist?’ I’ve been doing this for a long time and I just haven’t talked about it. Oops.”

Eilish also revealed her reaction to the publication of her words: “I saw the article and I was like, oh… I guess… I came out today!” she explained.

“..OK cool,” added the Grammy winner. “But it’s exciting to me because I guess people didn’t know … but it’s great that they do.”

Then she remarked, “Ooh, I’m nervous talking about it!” before concluding, “But… I’m into girls.”

As previously posted, “What Was I Made For?” The singer spoke about her attraction to women in Diversity‘s The Power of Women issue, as well as discussing the feeling she had of being disliked by other women. “I never felt I could relate to girls,” she said.

“I love it [women] so much. I love them as people. I am attracted to people. I’m really attracted to them,” added Eilish.

“I have deep connections with the women in my life, the friends in my life, the family in my life. I am physically attracted to them. But I’m also very intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence,” she continued.

During DiversityLast month at last month’s Power of Women event, the singer-songwriter spoke of how she was “proud” of her womanhood during an emotional acceptance speech, despite having “spent a lot of my life not feeling like I fit in I’m a woman.”

“I think for a few years because of that insecurity, I became almost very ‘picky’ about it, and I’d be like, ‘Oh, I’m not like other girls because I don’t do this and that,'” she said. “I became really jealous of that period because I’m much more interested in being like other girls because other girls are fucking tight and I like women.”

“This sounds kind of fucked up, but I have a lot of internalized misogyny in me and I find it comes out in places I don’t want it to,” Eilish continued. “And I have to say, with full transparency, I feel very grateful to be a woman right now. I feel very proud and honored to be here.”
